Scripture
29Jesus replied,
“The most important commandment is this: ‘Listen, O Israel! The LORD
our God is the one and only LORD. 30 And you must love the LORD your God with all your
gheart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength.’ 31 The second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ No other commandment is greater than these.”
Observation
The teachers of religious law are trying to trap Jesus here, by asking Him which is the most important commandment. Deuteronomy contains 613 commandments and there were always debates on which were more important than others.
Application
This pinged me because in the comment section of my devotional it says:
"If you are having trouble with your all-out love for God (as evidenced by disobedience, spiritual compromise, and loss of passion in your walk with Jesus), do this to remedy the problem: meditate on the cross. See and experience anew and afresh His unfathomable love for you. Regardless of what is going on in your life today, you can be certain God loves you.
1 John 4:19 NLT says:
"We love each other because he loved us first."
What God wants from us more than anything else is love. And we can love God because He loved us first. I can honestly say I do struggle with my passion and love for Jesus. When love from others in this world is so fleeting, it makes it hard to be able to feel and express love. But, Jesus tells us that no matter what is going on in this world, God loved us first, God loved us always, God loved us before we were even born, and God loves us even after we leave this world.
I think I need a deep-dive on God's love for me. I need to find scriptures about God loving me and remind myself of them every day until I "get it"!
Prayer
I can love, because of the love You have for me.
