  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Sophia Coppola is attractive, but I wasn't to thrilled with her performance in The Godfather Part III. Maybe she's gotten better.
Well, she directs this movie, and if I'm not mistaken wrote it also, so she is not performing in it

From a review that I read, Marie Antoinette brings together a historical drama and modernism together very effectively (i.e., the story, setting, and characers are all historical but the way they talk and act is basically modern). Also, about half of the musical score is classical music and the other half is modern-day songs. Gathered from reviews, it seems they have done this rather odd way of filmmaking very effectively. I cannot wait to see this movie, the previews look amazing and these reviews are adding to my excitement!!

The film looks great (fantastic costumes, shooting on location in Versailes!!!), but I'm afraid the movie might actually glorify Ms. Antoinette's frivolity more than it condemns it. There might be too much sympathising with the devil, though naive and foolish that devil might be. *shrugs*

Frivolity isn't inherently evil. Plus with such an unimportant issue, the movie will probably not take sides.

I would say that upholding superficiality as "fun" would make young minds watching the film feel liberated to continue or jump into, more of a life of carefree idiocy.
Frivolity matters in the case of Marie Antoinette because with all that money, she chose to waste it in pursuit of temporary happiness and foolery. In Ms. Antoinette's case, the issue of how she spent her leisure time is very important.
IMO.

You also have to consider the age that Marie Antoneitte was when she went the the French court, I think she was only 11. Of course she was frivolous, she was only a child and lived her entire life in indulgence and excess. So painting her as someone different then what she has been portrayed might be a good thing.
