I use to hate pictures that made Mary or our Lord look too European, but ive grown to accept that its the artist's depiction. The "black" depictions that i grew up with arent very accurate either tbh.

This thread... I approve.

I'm still fairly new to the world of Marian art, but this one is my favourite to date. Its art nouveau style... its abundant symbolism... everything speaks the powerful beauty of our two mothers and their roles in salvation history, from Fall to Resurrection.

My mother, my daughter, life-giving, Eve,
Do not be ashamed, do not grieve,
The former things have passed away,
Our God has brought us to a New Day.

Our Lady who softens evil hearts. A beautiful icon with the coolest name ever.

And I'm glad you're growing in devotion to the seven sorrows. The order I'm applying to is devoted to that.

Was looking for something a little different, and came across this. What a contrast to Christmas songs like "Gentle Mary, Meek and Mild" (sung to the tune of "Good King Wenceslas.") What reserves of strength and courage and faith she must have had when she fled with Jesus and Joseph to Egypt!

If you ever go to St. Louis, Tallguy, there is a beautiful shrine to the Black Madonna, in Eureka, just south of I-44 and Six Flags.

Eureka is way out in West County, and it's very tranquil, peaceful, and scenic.

My parents always preferred Our Lady of the Snows in Belleville, but I thought that was awfully commercial. The Black Madonna Shrine was the life work of a Franciscan monk.

I have a musical/poetic contribution. It was part of morning prayer at divineoffice.org today. I'm cutting and pasting the poem.

Mary the dawn, Christ the Perfect Day;
Mary the gate, Christ the Heavenly Way !
Mary the root, Christ the Mystic Vine;
Mary the grape, Christ the Sacred Wine !
Mary the wheat sheaf, Christ the living Bread;
Mary the rose tree, Christ the Rose blood-red !
Mary the font, Christ the Cleansing Flood
Mary the chalice, Christ the Saving Blood !
Mary the temple, Christ the temples Lord;

In Israel, at the Church of the Annunciation, many countries donate murals of Mary. Most are beautiful:

Wales:

Malta:

Thailand:

Somebody asked the tour guide if the US had a mural. He laughed nervously and said 'You'll see'.
And well, here it is:

I think it's terrifying and it does not remind me of Mary at all.
