How can we follow Jesus unless someone teach us accurately?
Because it is written:

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways,”
declares the Lord.

“As the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your thoughts." Is 55:8-9

I do not think we can have universal discipleship, for not all want to know the real Jesus. They want to follow their own version of Jesus. One that suits them fine.

Thousands of denominations is my Evidence A. All disagreeing on points that keep them apart because their natural tendencies dictate their image of Christ.

So? How can we have discipleship today?

How can we follow the Word of God? His ways are not our ways. His thoughts will sometimes shock you because of social conditioning and cultural taboos ingrained by religion.

So... I will ask again.

................................. How can we have discipleship today?

grace and peace ........

Jesus preached the Sermon on the Mount, so For me, this is where I begin to follow Jesus. There's enough material there to last more than a lifetime.

That sermon was beautifully preached to Jews.. not Christians.

Jesus came as a rabbi. A Jew. Teaching Jews. Jesus was revealing how beautiful Judaism could be when its lived correctly.

Jesus was teaching in the sermon about Torah, for Jews. No meek today are inheriting the earth. It had to do with Jewish teaching of the Kingdom on earth = the Millennium. That is what the Jews were hoping Jesus was going to set up at that time.

Christians will not inherit the earth. For our home is to be in Heaven.

Our home will be the New Heaven. Everyone who believes in the Lord outside of the church will have their home on the New Earth.

We are not like the Jews Jesus preached to...

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things
have passed away; behold, all things have become new."
2 Cor 5:17

Yield to the gentle pull of the Spirit. As worldly people we are in quicksand and to pull us too hard or too quickly would surely tear us apart. When one is baptized they have one foot firmly in the world, the other but tentatively in the church. Over time the balance should change until we withdrew the worldly foot completely. This comes with God's grace, time, and experience.

Division comes from private interpretation of the Word of God.

2 Tim 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

Rightly dividing is the one Greek word orthotomeō It is used only once in the Word, which indicates it’s significance.

The word Orthos means “perfect or right” or “perfectly straight” …tomeo means “to cut”. Orthotomeō means “a perfect or right cutting” The intrinsic nuance meaning … there is only one way to rightly cut the Word ….all other ways are wrong.

It is not up to us to interpret the Bible, but rather to rightly divide it, in other words…. see how the Bible interprets itself………….. When we do that it removes all the guesswork, all the error, all the opinions and all the private interpretation out of it.... which will leave us with an accurate rendering of the truth as God intended. …and accurate rendering and…. No divisions among us.

So the question becomes ……………How do we do that?

Starting with the right premises: Gods Word is perfect ( at least the originals were) He (God) magnified His Word above all his name (Psalms 138:2). Any error or “seemingly” contradictions are in our understanding, mistranslation or error in transmission. ...I should add... deliberate forgeries of the Word..... there are not a ton, but there are several.

Perspective:
The Bible fits together like an intricate jigsaw puzzle ….that means, you see how it fits and then believe …you don’t make it fit with your beliefs.

Our beliefs are irrelevant…. unless they match up with the Word of God and fits together with the entirety of the Word. …So maybe you have to shake the tree a bit, and get rid of what you have been taught or have taught yourself. Get rid of your title …You are Christian that is it! You are not a divided Christian… dispensationalist, mid-trib, post trib, spirit filled….. Whatever! Then Study the Bible using specific keys of biblical research and language.

For myself – I have developed a key which I use in research …I won’t post it…. but it is available to anyone who wants it ……….convo me, I will send it.

Emotions should not be our guide. Our Guide might want us to take the mountain when our emotions want to take the nice gentle path going in the wrong direction.

It has been said that in a church of 100 members 100 different sermons will be heard each Sunday.

Not if the pastor in prepared, intelligent, and knowing what he is doing in the Spirit.

It will not be 100% in that case. As many listening that are filled with the Spirit will grow more and more, being made capable of grasping what God wants them to know for that day and the next.

Just the same... There must be some who do not get the message correctly because God honors our volition

In the first place, I hear that when you come together as a church,
there are divisions among you, and to some extent I believe it. No
doubt there have to be differences among you to show which of
you have God’s approval."
1 Cor 11:18-19.

There were at least 12 Jews present that became Christian, probably more. Most Jews rejected the teachings of Jesus and thankfully, gentiles like myself were able to benefit. :ebil:

"But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God." Matt 4:4

"All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:" II Tim 3:16

You want to be a disciple?

We are not now in the sermon on the mount. We shall not inherit the earth.

My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. Jn 12:2-3

I repeat: Our home is in heaven. We shall not inherit the earth.

Jesus was preaching as a rabbi to Jews. Teaching about the eternal destiny of all believers who believe in Him outside of the church age.

I can tell you are highly emotionally attached to the sermon on the Mount in the manner you wish to see it. But, we are in for something far greater. Most excellent.

If you are going to be a disciple? We must be trained to think carefully with what the Word says. Not by what we wish it says.

Thats the OT yet it is not old. Whats changed since then? We have Christ in us we are one. We can know HIs thoughts His ways.

"these are the things God has revealed to us by his Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. For who knows a person’s thoughts except their own spirit within them? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. What we have received is not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may understand what God has freely given us."

Jesus is real. When I was younger use to go to this bible study. Well one day alone at home I said "Jesus show me what I have to do to be more like you". So one night in that bible study as we were praying and worshiping the lord one of those that ran the bible study said "Danny I don't know what this means but the lord said "I will show you what you have to do".

The point I am trying to make is.. Jesus is REAL! He really is with us right now. We let or allow so much of this world and what others believe to be our belief. As long as we follow some man.. all we get is what they personally believe. At some point we need to find HIM on our own. What HE started in us HE will finish. So we read the word praise GOD.. just WHAT do we truly believe

We'll have to agree to disagree. I will not argue.

I wish to reason. Not argue.

You wish to not reason together.

Thousands of denominations is my Evidence A. All disagreeing on points that keep them apart because their natural tendencies dictate their image of Christ.

??? There are several denominations in my city that are distinct, not for doctrinal reasons, but for reasons of language, culture, heritage and governmental style. They all believe and teach essentially the same things, though they are denominationally distinct.

So? How can we have discipleship today?

I've been discipling men for thirty years now. Not sure, then, about your question here...

Well, how do you follow the Word of God?

Walking well with God is not accomplished by our effort and skill but by the power of God. If it was just up to us to know God, none of us would ever even be saved.

So... I will ask again.

................................. How can we have discipleship today?

By emulating the discipleship we see in the NT.

I see you are from Canada. In the USA most denominations only agree on the very fundamental basic doctrines. What makes Pentecostals different from the Baptist and Catholics are the doctrines they propose that reside outside of the very basic essentials.

Some believe in salvation by faith alone. Others believe works are necessary to remain saved = confusion. God's Word when understood ends confusion.

Try a Google search as follows: .. how many christian denominations are there in the world today?

I've been discipling men for thirty years now. Not sure, then, about your question here...

Discipleship can mean many things. For example the Catholic church has discipleship that differs greatly from a Baptist church. The Catholics emphasize ritual and traditions developed by its church. God's effective discipleship to be effective requires sound expository teaching. Teaching that explains and clarifies in great detail God's Word in order to grow wisely in grace a knowledge.

grace and peace...
