• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I went for my annual thyroid exam today and told her that my hair had started falling out in big handfuls. Usually that means I need a bump in my thyroid meds, however, today she tells me that my numbers look fine. She suspects malnutrition. She says that even if I think I'm being compliant with the gluten-free diet, a little here or there, crumbs from this or that, eating out where they are careful, could be enough exposure to cause malabsorption. She ordered a dexa scan (bone density) and a bunch of bloodwork, then proceeded to lecture me on not seeing the GI doc very regularly. I have found a new one since moving here. It looks like it's time for me to find a new GI. I hate seeing the GI. I know a new doc will want scopes and biopsies and all kinds of unpleasant procedures. Not fun!!
please keep me in your prayers, thanks

malnutrition is so common - much more common than not.

and now that walmart has just announced $4/mo rx, malnutrition will become even more common . a huge percentage of people will be willing to take a pill daily instead of finding out what's bad in their diet, and their health care program will not help them find out in 96 percent of the cases(very educated guessing).

a really helpful book is "G_d's Key to Health and Happiness" by elmer josephson. or "What Would Jesus Eat" byDon Colbert.

for instance, iodine, vitamin e, b vitamins, and many minerals are crucial to health and are not even in a well-rounded diet in the usa (the foods have been depleted greatly, from the soil depletion and all the processing).

for those reading this thread because the word malnutrition caught their eye, and for help to improve health with good food choices,
here's a quote about elmer josephson's book: (only $15 online)

How to live a healthy, happy life. . .
Would you like to be in perfect health? No more unnecessary illness, no serious disorders, just a glowing of health and happiness? If so, this book is for you! It is a remarkable, life-changing guide to good health, based on the dietary laws in the Manual for mankind God created! This remarkable study on nutrition tells what foods are dangerous to our health (the list will astound you!) and reveals how to correctly prepare the food that good and nutritious to eat - "live foods = live bodies."
God's Key to Health and Happiness was born out of the author's own complete nervous and physical breakdown. This resulted in years of private research and study before the book was written. It has reached hundreds of thousands of lives with hope and recovery.
Elmer A. Josephson, an ordained Baptist minister, a graduate of Bethel Institute, St. Paul, Minnesota, also studied at the Moody Bible Institute in Chicago. His own serious illnesses were cured by following Bible teachings, compelling him to share his findings with others who suffer needlessly in body and spirit. The truths of this book added SIXTY years to his life and ministry.

[he lived 60 more years after being told he had 6 months to live by the doctors who diagnosed him with terminal cancer. ] my note

I have BED, with occasional bouts of bulimia, but that's not the cause. I also take thyroid meds. They're still not sure. I have celiac disease, but have been complient on the special diet for 8 years. They think it might be cross contamination, but the blood work was negative for that. I'm scheduled for an endoscopy and a colonoscopy on Nov. 9. I'll pray for your recovery from anorexia. My ED started out as anorexia, so I know how hard the struggle is.
