  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

We just adopted a male dog. We have never owned a male dog, so we really at wits end.

A month ago we adopted a girl dog, we also have a female cat. We gave the female dog back because our cat wasn't socializing well the with the dog and didn't come out during the day (as she did BEFORE we got the female dog). So just this past weekend we swaped the female dog for the male dog. We got the dogs from the same humane society. So we just have the male dog and the female cat.

Now the dog MUST smell the female dog and the female cat. So he "marks" everywhere. I cleaned up 5 places this morning in the spane of an hour. I took him out BEFORE he decided to do this. We are hoping that the dog will stop marking the walls and couch and such. Is this normal?

Also, he got neutured before we got him. Im not sure how much longer before we got. How long does it take for his hormones to calm down? (Trying to put it as nicely as possible)

Any help will be appreciated. Thanks in advance to any help! :D

Be Blessed.

Yes it is normal. Male dogs tend to mark their territory. There is a product called odercide that works really well on taking the smell out. Plus it would take the female scent off of things and then he might stop marking his territory.

it's good that you got him neutered. The other thing though is how old was he when he got neutered? If he got neutered at an older age he may have already developed this bad behavior and though the neutering stopped him from doing it do to hormones he may be doing it now kinda out of habit. You have to work w/ him to stop this behavior. Take him outside more often to go pee./poop. If/when he goes inside take him outside immediately so you are showing him where he is supposed to go. Reward him w/ a small treat when he goes to the door because he wants out to go pee.

For the cat, make sure you spend alone time w/ her so that she doesn't feel that she lost you do to your new pet. Take her into your bedroom or wherever where the dog is not and spend 10 or so minutes w/ her a day, give her the alone time she got before having the dogs.
