Hello all!
I LOVE stained glass windows. In fact, when I did some traveling in Europe I was fascinated by them. I just think they are SO beautiful. Well, its costly and very difficult to have them made and installed in your own home-trust me, I know from experience. But, there is an easier way!
I was wrapping gifts this Christmas and discovered that I could MAKE a "stained glass" window in a little under 10 minutes using nothing but glue, a bursh and colored tissue paper.
Heres How
Gather together multiple colors of tissue paper. Most craft and part supply stores carry a variety of colors like blue, green, pink, yellow, orage, red and black. Once you have multiple sheets, start tearing them into random pieces. They dont have to be any specific size or shape, just tear away! Put the torn pieces into a box or paper bag where they wont catch the breeze and blow away all over the house.
If you dont have some already-go to the craft store and buy a medium bottle of a special craft glue called MOD PODGE. Its thick and dries clear.
In an empty container or bowl mix Mod Podge with luke warm water (not ALL the bottle of course) until it forms a mily consistency. Set aside
Hopefully you'll have or can purchase a soft bristle paint brush (about 2" wide brush) Make sxure the bristles are soft to the touch and not too stiff.
Clean the window you want to work with using Ammonia or Windex, this will help the tissue paper adhere better.
Now, using your brush, apply a thin layer of the thin glue mixture to a small portion of the wondow. Pick out a piece of tissue paper, stick onto the window and re-brush a light coating of the glue over the piece-BE CRAEFUL NOT TO PRESS DOWN TO HARD! Start putting pieces on, overlapping just slightly until the entire window is covered. You can make special patterns or just random. Once it dries (30 minutes to 2 hours) when the light comes through you will have a beautiful bright "stained glass" window!
Cost of this project: Approx. $7.00
Lasts how long? Up to 6 months
How to remove? Spray window with simple green or windex enough to SOAK the paper, then use a razor blade and scrape away the tissue.
This is SO cool, and a great rainy day indoor activity for ids! With YOUR help of course.
Enjoy!
