Major New Feature: CFIM - The CF Instant Messenger!

There is a new major feature at CF - I've been working all day today to install this and set it up to work.

The staff have tested it, and it seems to be working fine.

CF now has its own Instant Messenger. Most members have heard of MSN, ICQ or AIM. CF now has CFIM!

Click on the CFIM link in the navbar (top left hand corner) and a window will popup (make sure you don't have popup killers or this won't work). Cookies need to be working too.

You will instantly be logged into CFIM. You will see all other members logged into CFIM as well as any buddies on CFIM.

Click on the username of any member or buddy who is on CFIM and you can instantly chat in real-time with this person - no refresh needed!

There may be bugs - please report them here.

Enjoy CFIM - it's open to all registered members.

Just keep the CFIM window open, and you can see which CF member has logged onto CFIM as well, and chat with them.

Question and a useful hint:

1. Is this an appropriate way to alert Mods. of a problem breaking out? (Particularly in a forum with no assigned Mods. online at the moment.)

2. If you do have Pop-Up Stopper or another of those programs installed, most permit an override by holding down the Control (or Command) key while clicking on the link to activate the pop-up (in this case the CFIM link). I know it works for the blessings and reputation pop-ups, so it should work for the CFIM window as well.

The only problem (as I see it) with using the 'override' is that the CFIM window needs to be able to generate new pop-ups when you get a message from someone. I think someone sent me a message earlier today, but I didn't get it because I had used a manual override to create the CFIM window, but the CFIM window couldn't generate the dialogue window in which to have the conversation.

Some (most?) popup blockers allow you to do a site override, and I think that would work better.

Hey, it seems cool, but i can't go on!!!!!!!!! I click someone's name and... nothing happens!! How do you disable pop-up blockers?

It depends on your pop-up blocker. I have the "google toolbar", and there is a button in the toolbar that I can click to enable all popups for a given site. CF is now on my 'popup friendly' list. You'll have to look at the documentation for your popup blocker, or let us know here what you use, and someone may be able to help you.

LOL, that was me i thought you were ignoring me i had to reset my pop up blocker to allow CF and it seems to work okay for me
