Plus or minus magnitude of error is from ten times to one tenth of the accepted result. This is a very large error in lab work. If the age of the universe is +/- a billion years of the "scientific" estimate, it is still less than a magnitude of error. For 6 Day Creationists, a magnitude of error is 600 years.

The phrase I am more familiar with is an "order of magnitude" = "factor of ten", i.e. divide or multiply the result by 10.

I'm not sure what your point is. If I'm estimating the size of Mt. Everest and I'm off by 1,000 feet do you consider that better or worse than estimating the size of my (quite modest) house and being off by 100 feet?

If you want to compare Creationists and Cosmologists, creationists have a range of 6,000 to 10,000 years for age, with respect to physicists studying the universe you have to define what you mean when you say the age of the universe, but the error bars are typically less than 10%.
