  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Analysis: Madison Cawthorn is having a *very* bad week - CNNPolitics

Earlier this week, CNN reported that for the second time in the last five years, Cawthorn was facing charges of driving with a revoked license. And that that charge was one of three pending traffic citations against the congressman. (The other two were for speeding -- one for going 89 miles per hour in a 65-mile-per-hour zone, the other for going 87 miles per hour in a 70 mile-per-hour zone.)
Then, on Thursday, a video surfaced of a recent speech Cawthorn gave to supporters in which he described Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky as a "thug" and called the Ukrainian government "incredibly evil." He also insisted, without explanation, that the Ukrainian government was "pushing woke ideologies." He didn't specifically explain what misinformation Zelensky was allegedly pushing on America.

And not to long ago he was being touted as the future of the Republican Party.

Hi @ThatRobGuy

Yeah, I know the GOP is fighting to show us all how hostile and evil the 'Squad' is in the Democratic party. But honestly, I don't think they've made nearly as many errors in word and judgment than the Boebert, Cawthorn, Greene, Gaetz alliance of the GOP.

However, I readily admit that such is only my own personal view. What gets me about this issue with Cawthorn and his driving record is just, hey, he's a lawmaker. Aren't they supposed to generally obey the law? I mean, I can understand speeding violations. I've been on the highways...everybody speeds! But to have your driver's license revoked twice in 5 years? To me, that's a bit more problematic. You really have to be either really bad at driving, or thumbing your nose at authority by not paying fines, to have your driver's license revoked. Certainly the speeding tickets mentioned wouldn't be so egregious as to warrant a revocation of one's driver's license...unless you didn't pay the fines or appear in court. For a lawmaker, and especially a fairly new one who is running his mouth like he is, I rather think this stems from some militant refusal to obey the very laws that the people you work with were responsible for putting in place quite a long time ago. It's thumbing one's nose at authority.

I'm certainly glad he represents North Carolina. But we've got our own problems with Lindsey Graham and where he always seems to be putting his nose...up Trump's...well, you know.

God bless,
Ted

Not clear how much of a difference any of this will make. The only people whose opinions matter are those in his congressional district who vote in the primary (it's my understanding his district is strongly enough Republican that whoever wins the Republican primary is all but guaranteed to win, so really only the primary matters).

If I became paralyzed after a car accident returning home from a spring break junket I don't think I would ever speed again.
Could it be an anger management problem?
He does seem to be a very angry young man, telling his constituents they might have to take up arms if their side loses an election.
Fate dealt him a blow, but there are soldiers his age who lost their mobility in war who handle their sorrow with far more dignity and heroism.

He wasn't driving. A friend was driving. But I agree that driving over the speed limit is a very bad idea, no matter who you are.

CHARLOTTE — Rep. Madison Cawthorn was cited for having a gun at Charlotte Douglas International Airport Tuesday morning, three sources tell Channel 9.

A photo obtained by Channel 9 shows a loaded Staccato C2 was recovered at Charlotte Douglas Tuesday morning.

This is not the first time a gun has been discovered on Cawthorn at an airport. In February 2021, TSA found a 9 millimeter handgun in Cawthorn’s carry-on bag at Asheville Regional Airport. Cawthorn did not face any criminal charges for the incident.

When you had "very" surrounded by asterisks, I thought you were referring to the women's lingerie pics that were publicized on Progress Radio and the Young Turks.

I looked and I thought one looked like it had been photoshopped. My son disagrees. I have decided not to pay attention to them, but there are other reasons I am a Cawthorn opponent.

Many people are saying the Mr. Cawthorne's new lingerie line is rather tasteless.... even "pathetic". I'm witholding judgement until his swimwear line is out.

Madison Cawthorn could be indicted for insider trading: report

Madison Cawthorn, the controversial GOP freshman congressman, may have broken the law by engaging in insider trading as part of a pump-and-dump cryptocurrency scheme, according to a report.

Experts told the Examiner that Cawthorn’s social media posts suggest that he may have had advance knowledge of the sponsorship agreement with [NASCAR driver] Brown [which caused the value to rise 75% overnight].

No link because the name of the cryptocurrency is banned here.

Naw, he's admitted it. It's mostly newsworthy because he made such a show of lying about getting invited to drug orgies and implying that he was so straitlaced.

He would be good-looking enough if it weren't for his personality.
He's just misunderstood. Perhaps a little time in a nice Federal prison will give him an opportunity to deal with his existential crisis.
