  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Well, I only know Canon because that's what I've got :p

This is the lens collection I am striving for (for now anyway ;)) This is what, IMO would cover all your basics:

Macro lens (Here is a good explanation of what a macro lens is)
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...UTF8&coliid=IW22L2OS5CQED&colid=1YSBNNXC1QQNM

Telephoto (Here is where you can read about telephoto lenses)
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...UTF8&coliid=I6FZRGF1X3RAO&colid=3F0GB15XTR68L

And of course you want a standard zoom lens. My personal choice is the canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8 USM standard zoom lens.

The Panasonic FZ-7 doesn't have interchangable lenses, does it?

But on the topic of macro lenses, I'm thinking of purchasing the Canon 28-135mm sometime in the near future as it is a very good lens for air-to-air photography also. Either by itself or along with a 30D once I upgrade bodies. I currently have a Sigma 10-20mm, Canon 18-55mm, and Sigma 50-500mm... most of my subjects are miles away.

That Canon 70-200mm is some fast glass. :) A super sweet addition to any photographer's lens bag for sure.

BlueAngel Dude! I've seen a bunch of your areal photos. I can see where long lenses would be of good use to you. ;)

Personally, I'm pretty severely disabled and I need long glass to reach what most folk can simply reach out and touch with a macro lens. I have to adapt and overcome so I've learned to be patient and make more use of my telephotos.

... and what I can't get via photography, I make via LightWave. :D
... but that's besides the point.

Macro: Nose to Nose lens. Short, used within inches or less of your subject.

Telephoto: Reach Out And Touch Someone lens: Medium to Long lens. Used to make teeeeeeny tiny objects appear very very near and large. [ objects in lens may be farther away than they appear ]

There ya have it. All nice 'n simple~like.

Now go forth, young Padiwan and use your new talents to do good and bring joy and happiness into the world.

:clap:YaaaaaaY

It looks like the only option you have is the DMW-LC55 Close-up Lens as far as Panasonic accessories for that camera go. It will cut your focusing distance by 2/3 at the long end with no difference at the wide end. You'll also need the DMW-LA2 threaded lens adaptor.

Once you have the DMW-LA2 adaptor, you can use non Panasonic 55mm dioptor lenses, but be aware that good ones can cost as much as your camera did.

The DMW-LC55 macro accessory seems to be a single-element lens, which would give me some pause. Supposedly two-element close-up lenses provide a significant edge in image quality over single-element ones.

If (and it's an important thing to check) the 55 mm threaded lens adapter that was mentioned above has a standard thread on it, then I would seriously consider getting something else -- probably a Canon 500D, a two-element lens that is the same strength as the DMW-LC55 and which costs slightly less ($72 vs $75 at B&H Photo) if you get it in the 52 mm size. You would also need a $10 step-down ring to match the 55 mm thread. (You can generally use macro attachment lenses that are a little smaller than the lens they're being mounted on without any problem.)

Ok so i found this site
http://www.dcresource.com/reviews/panasonic/dmc_fz7-review/

and it says this:
Something else you'll find in the box is a big plastic lens hood, which comes in handy when you're shooting outdoors. The lens hood is actually comprised of two parts: an adapter and the hood itself. The adapter also accepts 52 mm filters, and Panasonic offers a few (see below).

soooo there no way that the adapter will work with this
http://www.amazon.com/LENS-FILTER-P...6053521?ie=UTF8&s=photo&qid=1185591387&sr=1-9

I really cant spend hundreds of dollars for lenses, but wanted ot get a little start...... i think i got the wrong kind of camera..... can find anything made for it..... but what can the adapter work with

i think i got the wrong kind of camera
LOL. Trust me, you don't want to get sucked into this trap. Your camera is fine. Make some calls to local camera shops and see if they have what you're interested in that you can try on the camera. What the lenses do will make more sense once you see the effect on the screen.

Edward Weston learned enough about the mechanics of film photography to operate his large format cameras and to do his own film and print processing, but admitted that he didn't understand what he was doing and couldn't care less. He was only interested in the final image and he created some of the most famous photographs of the first half of the 20th century.

I think that'll be best, I might take it to some shops and see what they say, and what they have

I'm not real familiar with this camera - it doesn't appear to be SLR (which allows interchangeable lenses) - or is it, and I'm missing it completely? (I'm severely lacking sleep, so I wouldn't be surprised if I missed it somehow. ) But it looks like you have some options, you may just be a little more limited than you would be if you had a standard SLR. From the brief bit that I read, it looks like it has a lot of features - actually, it looks really similar to my mom's camera. I wonder if it is the same one? If so - it takes GREAT pictures! :D I'll have to look at hers next time I'm there.

Anyway, this is what I found during a really quick search for compatible lenses:

DMW-LT55 Tele Conversion Lens*
DMW-LW55 Wide Conversion Lens*
DMW-LC55 Close-up Lens*

They all require a lens adapter to work with the camera, however.

I agree with the advice of taking it to a camera shop and seeing what they have to show you that you can play with and see how it works with your camera.

This says it works with my camera http://www.amazon.com/Tokina-Profes...6053521?ie=UTF8&s=photo&qid=1185590945&sr=1-7

am i missing something or will it go, i want to buy it if it will work
It certainly looks like it should work. Based on the one review, it might not work very well, however.

If it were me, I would get this and this. If you want to stick to the original manufacturer's product and remove all doubt about it working, I would get this and this. They're all in stock, and cost $88 or $103, depending on which set you choose, plus shipping.
