MacKintosh and Grace

I can't believe some dispensationalists believe the OT saints were saved by works, after reading CHM's Notes on Gen. - Deut. (an early dispey writter 1880), he makes it clear that salvation is always by Grace.

Salvation has always been by grace, however, under Israels program it was a faith PLUS works combination that God required of them. They must believe what God told them PLUS demonstrate their faith by repentance and water baptism, as an example. The works aspect was REQUIRED in order to be saved. Under OUR present economy it is still by Grace, but its thru faith alone in the finished work of Christ alone.

Lets face it...Israels program was one of works. They refused to allow God to deal with them on a grace aspect alone and WANTED a works oriented program so that they could show God that they could do whatever He asked. He kept showing them that this wasnt the case and that they COULDNT do it...He wanted to deal with them in mercy but they were proud and signed up for the LAW contract. Thats exactly what it was too. If they obeyed, they were blessed and if they didnt , they were cursed. All but ONE of the five courses of curses that Israel signed up for have already occurred in history. ONLY one bucket of curses remains in their contract with God , and it is scheduled to come into play as soon as we, the Church, the Body of Christ, is raptured. Then the last course of curses will resume on Israels calendar. It is what we see referred to as 'the time of JACOBS trouble' or the "great tribulation" See Lev 26 for a detailed account of this contract Israel signed up for with God. Very interesting reading.
