Hey guys. Recently, I wanted to listen to some rap (idk I was just in the mood, which is kind of weird, b/c I don't normally listen to rap.) Anyway, I was sort of troubled b/c most rap songs are really disgusting in my opinion and just full of garbage. Then, I discovered Lupe Fiasco. Two things though, he's Muslim (which comes through his songs sometimes), and he curses sometimes. Is that bad? I mean I can listen to the edited songs so the language part isn't a bad thing really, but is it bad for a christian to listen to his songs. Go look up Lupe Fiasco - Words I Never Said ft. Skylar Grey [Music Video], if you've never heard of him and still want to give your opinion on it.

Hi. That's funny. I just saw that same clip and just had the same question in mind.
That's why I then googled it and found this page right at the top. LOL.
Anyhow, I have some thoughts on this. There are good things I like on Lupe Fiasco (not much sexuality on clips and not so much crap on it) and his clip "Words I Never Said" really shocked me how good he was on telling the truth. He told things people are afraid to tell and said people are afraid to tell what they want to tell because FEAR keeps them from doing so. I found it so awesome because that's just how I feel. I found that videoclip a good thing BUT his other videos are not even close to what I expected.
Question: Have you analysed his other videos?
They have less crap but it still is from the world. If that guy was called to open some people's eyes great and the glory is to God but I do not think he is a good influence. I also don't think many Christian singers(cause they don't really glorify God but themselves) are good influences but that guy is not of Jesus so it's hard for him to be a good influence to you.
See when we are for Jesus we don't NEED to do anything. We don't need to listen to music. We don't need to live for ourselves and do what we feel like doing. All that matters is getting closer and closer in a relationship with Jesus. I'm not saying you can't do anything. It's just how a person that is God-like-hearted thinks and lives by.
I have been trying many Christian bands(including gospel rap, gospel pop, etc.) and have been disappointed on the fact that not a whole lot on their lyrics but in many ways they glorify the world.
They say they are 100% hiphop and 100% Christian when it's impossible to serve 2 masters.
So right now what I listen to is pure gospel. I've found many great CD Albums at Walmart that were awesome(the ones that say "the 30 best...", etc.)
I hope I've given some good info. Stay firm in the promises of God.
Your Brother.
