I would like to share some of my thoughts on this scripture that has changed my life from the bottom up;
We all like to say we're walking in Love, but are we really?
Do we insist on our own rights or our own way? Are we rude? Are we touchy, resentful or self-seeking? Do we pay attention to suffered wrongs? Then we are not walking in the fullness of God's Love.
I've come to understand that just because I am justified does not mean that I am walking in Love. For example; If someone comes on here and calls me a no-good such-and-such, defames my character, and makes all kinds of false accusations against me, I am totally "justified" in being upset by that wrong done to me. But by doing so, I also decide to choose "law" over "Love".
Why does God tell us to do this? Because it's not normal! When someone does us wrong, the world and everyone in it EXPECTS you to defend yourself. They EXPECT you to "correct" that "wrong", and have absolutely no problem when we do.
When we choose God's Love and "pay no attention to a suffered wrong", people's minds go tilt. I can't tell you how many people have said, "You should tell that guy a thing or two!" when someone has attacked me. But by choosing God's Love, it gives me an opportunity to say, God's Love in me enables me to ignore when people say all kinds of evil about me. By demonstrating God's Love, people see that the accusations and the defamations are totally false, and I don't have to refute them at all.
In short, I've learned that it is far better to demonstrate what I believe rather than defending what I believe. When we choose Love, people see a difference, and it gives us an opportunity to witness about the hope we have in us.
Also, when we learn how to walk in this Love, God's Love in us, people no longer have the power to hurt us, regardless of what they say or do. It no longer matters what they call us, what they do to us, what they say about us... by choosing God's Love, these things are made to no effect on us.
Anyway, those are just some of my thoughts. I am far from perfect in this area, but the Amplified translation of the Love chapter has been an eye-opening and convicting experience for me personally, and I just wanted to share a little of that.
1 Corinthians 13:5 (AMP)
It [Love] is not conceited (arrogant and inflated with pride); it is not rude (unmannerly) and does not act unbecomingly. Love (God's love in us) does not insist on its own rights or its own way, for it is not self-seeking; it is not touchy or fretful or resentful; it takes no account of the evil done to it [it pays no attention to a suffered wrong].
When I got the revelation of what this scripture meant, I repented. I realized just how wrong I'd been, and how much I needed to work on in myself.It [Love] is not conceited (arrogant and inflated with pride); it is not rude (unmannerly) and does not act unbecomingly. Love (God's love in us) does not insist on its own rights or its own way, for it is not self-seeking; it is not touchy or fretful or resentful; it takes no account of the evil done to it [it pays no attention to a suffered wrong].
