Yes, we are to live holy lives, pleasing to God, and our lives are a witness for Christ Jesus and for his gospel. But we are to also be those who are verbally sharing the message of the gospel of our salvation with the people of the world, as Jesus did, and as his New Testament apostles did, which sometimes was in writing, like the letters they wrote which are in our New Testament. So we live what we preach, but we don't just live it. We speak it, too. And sometimes we sing it, or write it in a poem. But people need to hear the message (or read it) in addition to us living it. SuePreaching on the street corner is in my opinion is like blind mass mailing its response rate is for huge mailing (5,000+ addresses) highly ineffective with a response rate of on average between .15-.20%
Your life is a living testimony. If you examine the OT a person who walked UPRIGHT before the Lord was far more effective. If I can SEE Christ in YOU by how you life your life and how you treat others is EVIDENCE that is undeniable
There is NO substitute for a life of HOLINESS(Sanctification)
Imagine visiting Corinth in the 50s to buy a tent, and running into that tentmaker Paul, working with Aquila and Prescilla.Yes, we are to live holy lives, pleasing to God, and our lives are a witness for Christ Jesus and for his gospel. And you COMPLETELY missed the point... VERY, VERY few people who claim they are Christians live a life that aligns with what they say. The most effective way to spread the gospel is when a NON believer asks you about what makes you different just standing on a corner yelling at passer by is a COMPLETE waste of time IMO as far as being effective and useful and THAT was the point you CLEARLY did not reply in the context in which I presented my viewYes, we are to live holy lives, pleasing to God, and our lives are a witness for Christ Jesus and for his gospel. Bible Gateway passage: Acts 18:3-5 - New Life Version
They made tents for a living. Paul did the same kind of work so he stayed with them and they worked together. Every Day of Rest he would go to the Jewish place of worship and teach both Jews and Greeks. Silas and Timothy came down from the country of Macedonia. Then Paul used all his time...www.biblegateway.com
You expressed your opinion. I gave my response. I did not miss your point. Perhaps you missed mine. Regardless of what some other people do or don't do, we must follow the teachings of the Scriptures, and they teach us that we must live it but we must also speak it (and/or write it). I just read your earlier post and you most certainly did not say "standing on a corner yelling at passer by".And you COMPLETELY missed the point... Thank you, Maori, for those thoughtful and encouraging words. All glory to God!I just read your earlier post and you most certainly did not say "standing on a corner yelling at passer by".
You said "Preaching on the street corner".
The first is (admittedly and sadly) a subset of the later.
It's not hard to preach about Gods love, forgiveness of sins, loving one another, the better life walking with the Lord, historicity and apologetics.
Actually, we have an example in Christsfreeservant's postings on this forum.
Gods love, forgiveness of sins, loving one another, the better life walking with the Lord are IMHO very very consistant themes.
