  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The Greek word for "one another" or "each other" is "allelon." It indicates that action is given and received by each person involved. For example, I encourage you and you encourage me. If there are three people involved the command to pray for one another would mean the following in practice: I pray for you. I pray for her. You pray for me. You pray for her. She prays for you. She prays for me. All of us have been prayed for and all of us have prayed for everyone involved. That is what God has in mind when the term "one another" is used in scripture.

The following lists most of the “One Anothers” in the New Testament. It gives us a clear picture of what a Christian community should be like and how the children of God should relate with one another.

1Jo 1:7 If we walk in the light as he himself is in the light, we have fellowship with one another and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.
1Th 4:14-18 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, so also we believe that God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep in Jesus. For we tell you this by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will surely not go ahead of those who have fallen asleep. For the Lord himself will come down from heaven with a shout of command, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive, who are left, will be suddenly caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will always be with the Lord. Therefore encourage one another with these words.

"Do not" One Another Commands

1Th 3:12 May the Lord cause you to increase and abound in love for one another and for all

One Another Fulfilled
Rom 1:12 For I long to see you, so that I may use my spiritual gift to strengthen you, so that we may be mutually encouraged by one another’s trust/faith, both yours and mine.
Rom 15:14 I myself am fully convinced about you, my brothers and sisters, that you yourselves are full of goodness, filled with all knowledge, and able to instruct/admonish one another.
1Th 4:9 Now on the topic of brotherly love you have no need for anyone to write you, for you yourselves are taught by God to love one another.

1Pe 1:22 You have purified your souls by obeying the truth in order to show sincere mutual love. So love one another earnestly from a pure heart.

By Your Love for One Another...
Jesus said in John 13:35, "By your love for one another all people will know that you are My disciples." To show the importance of love as a witness to mankind please note what Jesus did not say.

  • He did not say that by your preaching all people will know that you are My disciples.
  • He did not say that by your teaching all people will know that you are My disciples.
  • He did not say that by the doctrines you hold as true all people will know that you are My disciples.
  • He did not say that by your attendance to a church every week all people will know that you are My disciples.
  • He did not say that by your singing praise to me all people will know that you are My disciples.
  • He did not say that by your education all people will know that you are My disciples.
  • He did not say that by your leadership all people will know that you are My disciples.
  • He did not say that by your smile and friendly greeting all people will know that you are My disciples.
  • He did not say that by your public prayers all people will know that you are My disciples.
Jesus said that by your love for one another all people will know that you are My disciples. Some of the things above are good but they are nothing without love (see 1 Corinthians 13:2). We need to ask ourselves this question. Does what we do when we come together as followers of Christ allow and promote love for one another? One another meaning each and every person involved has the opportunity and encouragement to love. To love both because they both are free to love and are being loved.

How much christians are showing to be good disciples of Jesus?
How much love to each other are we showing?
How much do we love each other?

Christians, who are supposed to be one body, one church, do not love each other to stay united as one body, one church. The christians churches are divided, and sub-divided, and divided again, and divided one more time, to the point where it is atomized in thouthands denominations that has not any contact to each other.

Churches teach to love the church. To love that specific denomination. A christians is teach to be proud of his church and defines himself as being of that denomination. "I am Penthecostal" "I am Baptist United from the South"

Too churches few block away do not visit anytime because they belong to a different denomination. But do visit churches in other towns if they belong to the same denomination.

But we do not belong to a denomination, not to Peter, not to Paul but to Christ who have pay with his blood to buy us, and is requiring we stay united as a single body in muthual love.

Good thoughts. I've been thinking about this lately a lot as well - it seems so simple to just have to love one another and to love God. Yet, in reality, when you'd have to actually do that it becomes impossible for many of us... Just loving. That's something I myself need to pray about a lot, that I'd learn to love and learn to show it and learn to give it freely to others so that it would grow.

A friend of mine also had this thought concerning John 17:20-21: [“My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me".] He said that in his final speech Jesus had promised us that whatever we pray believing in Him, we would be answered. However, if you look at his prayer and think about whether it has been answered it seems out of balance - we get what we want but Jesus' prayers are not answered?

Certainly, there's many reasons to work for christian unity. There's a past of 2000 years of fighting against each other. Now we should be heading towards another 2000 years fighting with each other, against the evil. Time for ecumenism, time for love for God, and for each other, and for the good.

Certainly, there's many reasons to work for christian unity
Unity cannot be forced. Unity and conformity are not the same.

Colossians 3:14 says that "Love is the perfect bond of unity."
The only way to unity is through the love of God.

1 John 4:10-11 says, "This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God loved us that much, we surely ought to love each other."

Unity comes from realizing how much God loves us then loving others because of His love for us and them.

1 Corinthians 13:2 says, "Without love we are nothing"

So this is my advice to you Aino, to learn how much God loves you and His great love will lead you to love Him and others in a freer way than you ever thought possible..

This one is worth saving. Of course Love is the work of the Holy Spirit in us and even it is God's love at work in us. It is nothing we can do apart from God. I know faith and love work together, if you have one, you will have the other.

I agree, love is the key to everything. But I also think that love doesn't come without actions. I think that since we as christians love one another, we should also show it. Like do something with that love. That could mean negotiating about more co-operation between churches and congregations, as well as obviously between single members of those. That could mean trying to look past dogmatic issues and seeing what we have in common - the practices such as communion, and above all God of course. ;)
