Proverbs 10:12 says >

"Hatred stirs up strife,
. But love covers all sins."
. . . . . . . . . . .(Proverbs 10:12)

I have wondered if this means that love covers-up for sins, instead of making a big show of exposing them and talking about them.

But . . . I have not quite ever accepted this interpretation.

What have you gotten about this?

I am now looking up comments on the Net, about this.

One idea is that covering means we do not make a project of shaming a person who is wrong. We don't cover-up for it, but also we do not try to just shame the person. I see a point of this, how love "hopes all things", we hav in 1 Corinthians 13:7 > If I have hope for the person to do better, I am not going to just judge the person as though he or she can not change and will not change; I will not make a project of criticizing the person; but I have hope of how God is able to deeply change the person's character so he or she is like Jesus and loves like Jesus; and so this is what I seek, in prayer with God.

And in us we do not let it keep getting the better of us >

"And who is he who will harm you if you become followers of what is good?" (1 Peter 3:13)

And Jesus forgave people, right while they were busy with hating and torturing and murdering Jesus who is God's own Son.

"Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do." (in Luke 23:34)

So, forgiving is including in covering, but forgiving is not by itself. We seek in prayer and ministering how the person can be changed out of the wrong stuff of the person. So, we are covering with prayer . . .

That is certainly one good aspect of it.

Love breeds forgiveness.
The proverb is talking about sin done against you/me personally, and not sins against someone far away.
We can't forgive Putin for making war on his neighbor.
But the Ukrainians could.

According to my Hebrew source, to "cover" can mean to "plump", which seems like this can mean to fill in . . . in my Strong's Concordance Hebrew dictionary.

If you cover a pothole in the street . . . you do not only put a piece of paper over it!! You fill it with solid material.

And, like this, if we love people, we seek God to deeply change them in their character so they are loving people and pleasing to God like Jesus is so pleasing to our Father. We forgive them, yes, and we do not let them have power to hurt us and make us suffer, and we do not seek revenge and pain for them; but we seek how God is able to correct them to become and love like Jesus. This I believe is the meaning of Hebrews 12:4-14 about God's correction.

And we have Galatians 6:1 >

"Brethren, if any man is overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritual restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness, considering yourself lest you also be tempted." (Galatians 6:1)

So, we can restore someone who has gotten into sin trouble.

How do you take care of a dental cavity? You do not just put gold over it, to cover it. But you drill out the nasty and rotting stuff and make sure it is clean, then fill it with material that will protect it. This is the best way to cover decay > to have what is right instead.

So, like this, I see, God is able to remove what is wrong from our character, and fill us with His Holy Spirit of His love, instead, and make us strong in Jesus in our character.

All sin is is our putting our will ahead of the will of God. (breaking Jesus' first commandment). In doing so we become selfish. Loving all as self (the 2nd commandment) counteracts that as we can no longer seek gain at another's expense. Hence love covers all sins.
