I'm part of a lottery pool. My hopes of actually winning something are pretty low, but you never know.

I just figured if I do win enough money, then I can quit my job and volunteer more, spend more time with my kids and all that.

I think I've played the lottery like, five times in my life.

Those where when the jackpot got huuuge, and when that happens every adult in my family buys like like four tickets each.

Last time, I ended up winning 14 dollars, lol. I think that's the only time any of us has won.

It's not something I (or my family) do often. I don't see it as harmful when done in moderation (like anything else), I don't find it a sin, and I don't think we should get rid of it.

What are your opinions on buying lottery tickets? Do you ever play the lottery?
No sin in it at all. I just refrain from playing it because the odds of winning are so astronomical.

I play lottery whenever the jackpot exceeds $40 million.
40 being the biblical number lol.
I only play 8 games though.

Imo I think there is value to lottos.
I recall reading an article about a mathematician who played the lotto. People were surprised by this as the odds were more than 1 in a million but he said something to the value that the $10 or so he spends every week gives him hours of entertainment on thinking what he would do if he won, and that it afforded him many hours in using his imagination compared to the entertainment value of the $20 for a movie ticket, staring at a blank wall.

It isn't ideal and it kind of is gambling but you could pass it off as entertainment and lotto is infinitely better than playing the pokies.

I played the lottery once. Won 30 million dollars..

But the money has just been sitting in the bank ever since collecting dust..

Not sure if I'd play the lottery again.

My perspective on lotteries:

The odds of winning are low....

Furthermore, the government has too much power and regulates a lot of things that it shouldn't. I would rather flush money down the toilet than play the lottery, because playing a state lottery gives money to the government so that the government can cause trouble with it.

I like the idea of lotteries, though, because it is a voluntary tax,.... if you look at its' function in the government, it's like an extra tax for those who are unwise enough to play it.
