  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

WOOOOHOOOOO!!

My husband and I were watching a recording of last night's Primetime and I finally saw what we've all been waiting for -- the first promo for LOST, Season 3. I was so excited I had to run right over here and tell all y'all! :D

Unfortunately, it wasn't much of a promo. They confirmed that 65 days have passed since the crash. They said first came survival (season 1 scenes), then came confrontation (season 2 scenes), and now "their only hope is each other" ... followed by some very fast scenes flashing by that even my TiVo on slo-mo couldn't quite capture. (I need Dora's HD!!) I know they show Charlie running, and Zeke swinging a rope or something over his head, but that might be an old scene. It ended with the scene of Michael asking Fenry, "Who ARE you people?" and his reply -- "We're the good guys."

I got shivers!

October 4th is the day. Yay. I hope they don't wait too long before the next promo is released!

I <3 LOST. :D

Some thoughts on recent advances in the Lost Experience and how they relate. Don't read if you don't want to know the content of the most recent videos released.

Key phrases:
"We have engineered into the virus."

"And they believe we are bringing them the cure."

Unidentified Person: "Tom, these are people, innocent human beings, and we're just—" Mittelwerk: "If you knew with mathematical certainty that you could end all famine, war, and poverty, what would you do?"

"The villages of Fallam and Vitualami have allowed us to test our vaccine on them."

"Without allowing for anymore suffering than is absolutely necessary."

"We must be absoultely certain we are hitting precise genetic targets."

What if the Dharma Initiative on its surface is a red herring? What if the true purpose is to save the human race from itself by turning people from inherently bad to inherently good?

Imagine if you needed to change the very foundation of humanity, the DNA. You would need some way to propogate the changes, some kind of virus. You would need to be able to test not only the virus' effect on people, but the virus' ability to replicate, spread, and survive in varying climates.

Now assume that you have accomplished this. Do you change all of humanity? What if only certain people were receptive to the virus, or perhaps only certain people were close enough to what you wanted already to be successfully "fixed"?

So you create a false habitat and enlist your first guinea pigs. People who are not only "good people", but intelligent as well. They can save the human race, and then advance it after it is saved.

Do you tell them? What if their finding out about it causes an incident that makes the project a failure. You would need a pretense to bring them to the island, maybe tout it as a research station, and then make sure they're never far from such a station, that they can't spend more than a couple of hours away.

But the virus has problems, people are getting sick and want to leave. So you give them a vaccine. It doesn't do anything except placate them and make them even more afraid to venture away from where you want them. Or maybe the vaccine simply counters the bad side effects of the virus.

And then if anyone happens to stumble on the island, you can choose who you want to take and add to the project...

Very, very interesting theory. I'll just add one thing to it:

Babies are inherently good. To go with the general religious/faith theme that's been running through the show, babies are good, they are innocent, we are supposed to be like little children and have their faith and goodness. Could they be getting this "goodness virus" from the DNA of children? Is that why they've wanted to steal babies, and did in fact steal the tailies' children?

Season three trailer. One of them, anyhow. Well, both of them, if you watch till the end...

And now that I think about it, one other meaningless thought to toss in: 65 days (crisis point/ starting point/whatever. Number 42 + 23. So...42 + 23 + 16 = 81 days until next crisis point/starting point whatever. Seem to remember lostaways busting into Hatch on Day 42 (could be wrong); that set tone for all of season 2. 81 days + 15 days = 96 days. And so on. Utterly meaningless...

What a crappy schedule.

Lost Season 3 starts Oct 4rth 2006, goes for 7 episodes, takes a break comes back in Jan 2007 for 18 more shows.

I hate to admit it, but I'm growing on the idea of ABC blocking it out like that because the dribs and drabs of episodes until late April last year were maddening. And are your numbers right? A 25 show season? Nice...

Oh and, subscribing. :)
