Hi People,

I've been getting some words of wisdom from the fans of Lost and am wondering if anyone else is just now watching the first season?

I'd like to discuss it, but haven't even finished watching the pilot. But I want to be able to post without spoiler tags.

So, anyone interested in joining me?

I love the suspense, so please don't give anything away in this thread.

Thanks!

Hmmm...a sort of `who is who' for Lost, Season I:

Jack - the doctor and unwilling leader

Kate - `felon woman'

Sawyer - Island Outcast, a bad man

Locke - old guy with a varied past. Hunter and mystic.

Sayid - Former Iraqi soldier and torturer.

Boone - `superficial' guy trying to make something of himself, Lockes sometimes pal.

Shannon - Boones half sister, hot, very shallow...

Charlie - former `rock god' (at least in his own mind), druggie

Claire - Pregnant australian gal...

Michael - Black man, construction worker, artist, divorce from hell in his past.

Walt - Michaels son, has odd talents, separated from Micheal for a very long time.

Hurly - The Fat guy. Real name Hugo, a guy with a past right out of a screwed up comedy movie.

Sun - Korean woman, comes from wealth. Speaks english but keeps it secret.

Jin - Korean man, violent past, Sun's husband, does not speak english, stormy relationship with Sun.

-------------------

Some minor characters of interest to watch out for (they don't appear all that often):

Rose - elderly black woman who *knows*

Scott/Steve - sort of an `in-joke', deliberatly confused with each other

Ethan -

Danielle -

This is an version of the character list I put on the other thread. I edited it to remove spoilers, whats left, if I remember right is stuff you should be able to pick up in the pilot and first few episodes.

You all are really nice to come along to chat with me about Lost!

Well, we bought the DVD set of the first season and we've finished part one of the pilot and have started a ways into part two.

How about if I put it this way...some rather suprising information has just been revealed about Kate and the man travelling next to her.

So, I've seen flashbacks about:

Jack, Kate, Charlie, and I guess that's it so far.

We're starting to hit some real "hmmm" moments.

I'm a bit intrigued by the guy with the backgammon set - somewhat older gent who didn't come out of the flash rain storm. Also a bit intrigued by the long-hair younger man who helped the pregnant woman. But certainly not only them.

It is interesting to think of all the things you could potentially make available to yourself out of various suitcases.

I really wouldn't care to fly anytime soon, after watching this show! How about you guys, do any of you fly and think of this show when you do?

Well, those are some bits of thoughts to start with - am still trying purposely not to be too specific, so not to spoil it for newer-bies.

Thanks for chatting with me and please DON'T tell me anything.

Well, thanks, but I'm not going to read it just yet - the reason being that I JUST learned about Kate being a felon - and who knows what I haven't learned that's on your list. So, I'll come back to it when we get much further into the show.

We just saw the flashback with her and the handcuffs. That was a surprise.

Thanks for the list!

I'm a bit intrigued by the guy with the backgammon set - somewhat older gent who didn't come out of the flash rain storm.

This would be John Locke, from the list in my post. And yes, a very interesting character.

Also a bit intrigued by the long-hair younger man who helped the pregnant woman. But certainly not only them.

Boone, I think. Not sure. Maybe Charlie. (Hadn't seen the pilot in a long while).

It is interesting to think of all the things you could potentially make available to yourself out of various suitcases.

yes it is.

I have not been on a plane flight since...hmm...I think Clinton was still in office. Not because I didn't want too, but because there was no need.

No Prob. What is there is pretty much common knowledge by about the third episode, I think. Hmmm...most of it anyhow. Mostly its to keep the names straight.

Charlie isn't the person who helped the pregnant woman. Charlie was in Lord of the Rings, the one person I recognize from someone else. ( It's funny to see he walking through the forest or climbing the hill!)

Anyway, the guy that helped the pregnant woman is also young, has rather long hair compared with everyone else, and is over weight.

I'm not caring for the brother/sister pair very much, which probably means they'll be around for a Looonnnggg time.

So, let's see...

Didn't make too much sense to me that the dog didn't go to the beach, especially since he was unharmed. I'm really afraid to be too fond of him - but I hope they keep him around. I'm bracing for otherwise.

That's all I'm thinking off the top of my head. Hope to watch some more this weekend.

Ahhh...that would be Hurly (Hugo). One of these guys who keeps trying to do the right thing...

The dogs name is Vincent. Vincent is tough, and when he's not underfoot, he's ...

Thanks for the info. It'll be nice to get through a few episodes and know a bit more what in the world I'm talking about.

I have to say, one of the things that probably intrigued me about watching this show, other than knowing some general things that people say about it being great and all, was the promo for this year's finale.

The P.R. people did a great job, I just about wanted to tune in and see - for goodness sake - just what was going to happen in this show...

So, was the finale this year really good? Or was it hype?

Or maybe it was a cliffhanger! Those are great! (I'll never forget waiting MONTHS to see what would happen in Star Trek, Next Gen when they were facing the Borg! That was cliffhanger with a capital C-L-I-F-F-H-A-N-G-E-R! :D )

Please just a general answer, if you answer that question.

The finale was good, but the opener for season 2 is amazing (sort of answers the question the season 1 finale leaves you with).

We started watching earlier this week, watched all of seaon 1 and are starting season 2.

So, you've just started watching too, that's interesting! Thanks for the input.

And, if it wasn't clear, I was talking about the finale for the season that just finished last month - so, I guess that would be the end of the 3rd season??? I don't know how many seasons they are in.

So, will September start the 3rd or 4th year? Losties, help us out here.:D

There have been two seasons total. I thought you said you'd just started the first season, though?

The season II finale ...

hmmm...

...it did provide answers of a sort to a couple of things... (one of which your probably wondering about already, but the other you don't learn about at all until season II starts)

...it also revealed a couple of things `out of the blue'...

...it also featured several characters undergoing dramatic changes of various sorts...

...in a sense, about half the cast is caught up in what might be termed `cliffhangers' (stretching and bending the definition a bit)...

Yes, it was good.

You might want to start paying carefull attention to `secondary' characters in the flashbacks.

Minor example: flashback features the one character talking with another in a cafe - but their waitress is the mother of another character (whom you saw in another flashback). In each episode, usually there will be one or two `easter eggs' like this.

Sometimes the `crossovers' are very minor, other times they are critical.

Every now and again somebody would post long lists of such `connections' at the site I used to post at.

know nothing aout Lost but hear people rave about it.
Can someone give me a quick synopsis about the show
to help me decide if I should watch it?
thanks
chava

Hmmm...

...there is a plane on a flight from Sydney, Australia to Los Angeles...

...Due to `problems'...the plane ends up 1000+ miles off course, then breaks up and crashes on a island somewhere in the pacific. (this actually takes place *before* the 1st part of the first show - show begins immediately after the plane crash proper).

Initially there are some 40+ survivors. Miraculously, only a couple of them are badly injured. The survivors take various measures to survive and check out the island a bit. In the process, they start to learn that this island has mysteries - *LOTS* of mysteries. Not only that, most of the central characters (through flashbacks) are revealed to have secrets, issues, or dark pasts of their own.

For the names of the characters, and just a bare bit about them, you could probably check out one of my earlier posts. Most of whats there is what you would glean in the first few episodes anyhow.

I did just start the first season, and am still not through the pilot...

But! What I had mentioned was that I saw previews about a month or so ago for this year's season finale. Just the promo I saw for it looked intriguing to me and I decided I wanted to try the show.

So, now I own the first season and am getting underway.

Sorry for being confusing. Thanks for joining in the chat!

O.K., done with the pilot and the first episode after the pilot.

It ended with "feel-good" music and a happy canine moment.

For the moment, everyone is fairly happy. Sort of!

Boy these people are keeping stuff from each other.

I guess there's got to be at least SOME blood in every show. And I assume the crash flashbacks aren't over, that would be too good to be true.

Lots and lots of secrets!

Well, that's it for now. Night!
