CANNOT WAIT!!!!!

I'm not working on Wednesdays anymore - which makes me 100 times more excited - don't have to worry about getting up for work the next morning.

That's awesome! I'm all the time having to remind my husband of Lost night, so he can arrange to go in a little late the next morning :p

Pretty cool Lockecentric ep. There have been times where I didn't care for him delivering answers via expostion because it had the feel of a deus ex machina, but tonight was perfect - an answer that asks two more questions.

And don't know if anyone else saw this, but I noticed on one of the calendars at work that Mon. was Jeremy Bentham's birthday.

The kid being an older Aaron is a really good thought - since he is "the little prince" and significant in some way that we apparently don't know about yet. I was thinking a young Widmore, but I like Aaron as an option more.

I need to confirm this, but I thought numbers 23 and 4 were not shown in the cave - I know Kate and Aaron for sure weren't shown, so I wonder if those were their numbers.

I loved all the cross-experiences in the flash-sideways with Locke running into so many of the Losties.

What, exactly, are they candidates for???

What was Ben doing off the island in the LAX timeline? I was under the impression that he was not on the rescue sub back in 1977, which means he should have died when the Lostaways blew the place up. Still...being a teacher of European History does seem to suit him.

I was also a bit let down by the cave - I was really expecting there to be weird artefacts or part of a crashed UFO or something - instead we get a set of scales and a bunch of chalked names on the walls.

It seems to me that the lostaways in the LAX timeline, are, on the whole much more inclined to make positive choices for themselves and others than were the lostaways that crashed on the island. Kate actually helped Claire, Claire decided to keep the baby, Locke came to his senses, Hurly see's himself as lucky rather than cursed, Rose has accepted her condition...

As to the lostaways and the Candidate business - ok, the core lostaways were always Candidates - presumably to take Jacobs place on the island. The smoke monster (demon? alien? ghost?) wants off of the island, wants to abdicate his position there, which might mean some of the lostaways are canditates for his position as well.

So, if I remember right, the candidates and their status's are:

John Locke - dead and out of the running.

Sawyer - - alive and willing to throw in with Smokey - but he is a con artist, and might be running some sort of game here.

Sayid - effectively 'claimed' by the dark side (Smokey?) unless he dies first.

Jack - a viable replacement for Jacob...but his sister Claire is already 'Claimed'

Hurley - another viable replacement for Jacob. Maybe the best choice all the way around.

The Kwons - Jin appears to have some serious problems at the moment, but they could still be replacements for Jacob.

Does Jacobs position have to be filled by a single person?

Also, I suspect the series will be wrapped up in such a way as to make the whole Candidate thing meaningless.

That said, Lapedus's comment at the funeral was, to me, the best line in the episode.

Locke was 4 and Jack was 23...unless my eyes were playing tricks on me.

Was thinking about what you said about a young Widmore...and it was Widmore and Ben who talked about the "rules" before. So, maybe Widmore is a better idea.

I didn't think there were many new answers either. We kinda got an explanation about the numbers, although I don't like that it's nothing more than "Jacob has a thing about numbers" and we sort of know why Jacob visited everyone. I still want to know why they are candidates, and why the island needs to be protected.

Well I am just as confused as ever. I thought that the young boy was Jacob, not sure why.
And it was interesting that Richard didn't see him but Sawyer did. I guess it helps to be drunk to see those apparitions.;)

I am wondering if "smokie" is going to enlist sawyer's help to spin the wheel again, to get off the island, and putting the island into another time jump,
that will really confuse things more.
