Hy all!!!

I´m a big LotR fan and I think that i´m not the only one round here.

Just thought that having a place to discuss the books would be great...
I know anyone has something about the books or Tolkiens world he/she wants to know....
So just ask and I (or someone else) will try to answer...

Or post some topic we could start a discussion on like: are LotR christian books or was Tolkien just taking some ideas from the Bible for his books....

Hey! I'm a LOTR's fan!!! hehe
I think that Tolkin did not intend the books to come off as spiritual or anything, but we can find themes that relate to our faith and Christ.

So does anyone love watching the extended version of Return of the King?

some friends of mine have got it at Christmas and I really want to watch them...even if not everything that i would like to see is there (like Tom Bombadil and the end of RotK-how Saruman was really killed and what happend in the Shire- it´s not in there)

For Religion in LotR just read http://www.retirementwithapurpose.com/kmlotr.html

here´s the most important part...

Tolkien himself admitted this just prior to the publication of LOTR in 1954, when he referred to the epic as a “fundamentally religious and Catholic work; unconsciously so at first, but consciously in the revision.”

But Tolkien warned readers not to look for any “hidden” meaning or message in his books.

Im also a big LOTR fan. I like all three of them. Which one do you guys like the most? OH...I had someone tell me they are going to make a film for The Hobbit. Is that true or just a rumor?

There once was a comic-version made by Tolkien himself but it´s very old and hard to get...

As for making a film out of it there are plans by Peter jackson to do it...I´ve heard somewhere with the stars from LotR ....got to look up where I have that from too...I always forget that :)...

As for which one i like most...I like all three of them, each one is different and so it´s hard to tell which one I like most

I: Is easier to follow and closest to the book (except the love-scene in Rivendell)
II: I disliked that they nearlly killed Aragorn in this ward attack but the rest of the film is great
III: there are a lot of things that are not as they are in the book (Faramir and the ghost-army for example) but I tend to like it best because this changes just should cut down the lenght of the film and I likethe music a lot 8especially the song by Annie Lennox). It also keeps up the tention how it all will end... in part I and II it´s not that interesting how it all will end because the end is too far away to think about it and there are still a lot of battels to be fought ere the end...Another reason for voting for IRotK is Gollum...he is so cute  ....

So, I hope I´ve answered all questions (be back giving where I´ve got the answers from)...

I think I'm a little bit qualified for the LotR fanclub. :)

I had this post about ready to send where I expanded on my feelings of the books vs. movies, but my stupid computer froze up. Here it is in summary: the movies were a very pleasant surprise for me. I'm still saving my money to get the master 12 disc extended edition, but it will definitely be worth it.

Ainuhina, the old Hobbit movie you're thinking about was probably the Rankin/Bass version that came out in 1977. I remember seeing this at one point and thinking it was kind of mediocre. But then again, in 1977 there was no such thing as computer animation so I guess they did the best with what they had available. Here's some info on it:

The Hobbit

I'd love to see a Peter Jackson production of The Hobbit, for sure.

Sindarin? I dabble in Quenya (being of Imladris and not Lorien ;) ), but have only learned a phrase here and there. I just don't have the time to go crazy and figure out the language, lol. It is a cool pursuit, though.

I have loved Lord of The Rings for years.
I have lost count of the number of times I have read and reread the series.
I have also read the Hobbit many times.
I used to have a copy of the Silmarillion that I read but some how I either loaned it to someone and they never returned it or I lost it :(
Though the movies were good they were just not near the level of the books in my opinion. I felt that they left out characters that were central to parts of the story and changed timelines on when other characters showed up in the movie.
Thinking about this makes me think about going and reading the books again soon...LOL :)
Nothing like reading a good book.

I agree...there is npthing better than a good book...even if the films are great....

As for languages I´ve so far only tried to learn Sindarin but still need a dictionary and my booklet with the grammar rules to produce a meaningful sentence..don't have time to do it right...

Where do you get the information to learn the elven languages?
I should say that in some chat rooms I go by the name Aragon which I changed from Aragorn just because I wanted to have a variant spelling of His name.
I still haven't started rereading the books yet since I am in the middle of reading several other things at this time.

open www.google.com and tipp in sort of Quenya/Sindarin learn ... this should lead you to a lot of pages contaning grammar, vocabs, pronounciation, script...

I've tried to learn it (sindarin) but I'm not good at it ...it's very difficult but it's a great language...

@ tribulation saint

welcome here...I've been searching for a club like this on here to and since I couldn't find one I made one... ;)
