  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Looks like fewer and fewer are interested...

Whenever I do that, i find it harder to plan the next move (especially when I move one of the two on the far sides.) mostly because the other person gets control of the middle. I'm going to try moving with the Queen's pawn next time. Thanks for the tip Warren!

In the opening, you should do the following:

1) Place a pawn in the centre of the board.

2) Bring out your Knights, then Bishops, and always with influence on the centre.

3) Castle as soon as you can.

With these rules in mind, you'll do fine.

I don't really know. The only people who I have ever played is my dad and a friend over the internet. I must be pretty easy to beat too. It also takes alot of time to play. But I guess I could burn some time, just have to find someone...

Hi Warren,

Yes, it is a little bit inactive here. I'm trying to find more players willing to form a Christian group on servers like playchess (because its easier to use), but I dont know who would be interested. I'm sure there are Christians who play on the server but don't know who they are. Mostly just to play some games together, chat, have some fun etc.

I'm not experienced enough to know stuff like 'King's Gambit Declined' or all of the variations of the Caro-Kann (heck...I don't know any variations of the Caro-Kann!! ;) ). I do know that so far as white I like king's pawn openings. My immediate goal is to:

1. Control the center
2. Develop my knights and bishops
3. King-side castle

It's been at least ten years since I've really played, but I recenty picked up Chessmaster 10 for my laptop. Does anybody else play on that program?

Carokann variations, off the top of my head (I studied it as my main defence against e4 for over 10 years):

Panov Botvinnik (1.e4 c6 2.d4 d5 3.cxd5 exd5 4.c4)

Advance (1.e4 c6 2.d4 d5 3.e5)

Classical (1.e4 c6 2.d4 d5 3.Nc3 dxe4 4.Nxe4 Bf5)

Nimzowich (1.e4 c6 2.d4 d5 3.Nc3 dxe4 4.Nxe4 Nd7)

1.e4 c6 2.d4 d5 3.Nc3 dxe4 4.Nxe6 Nf6 (Not sure if there is a variation name)

Fantasy (1.e4 c6 2.d4 d5 3.f3)

Fischer's line (1.e4 c6 2.d4 d5 3.cxd5 exd5 4.c3)

Two Knights (1.e4 c6 2.Nf3 d5 3.Nc3)

There are more, but I'm a bit too tired to try to remember them.

Your three goals look an awful lot like the three rules I posted above ;)

Hi Warren,

Sometimes I leave it on but I always check my backlog for messages. I'll send a message when I see you on :).

Ab

You won't see me on anymore. I uninstalled Hiarcs 9 and all my chess software. I have officially retired and I'm selling Hiarcs 9 and Big Database 2004. They are legal originals from ChessBase.
