As of....well, the past few weeks, X-Men: Two Sides to a Story has been in need of new members. We need serious writers to play either students at the Xavier Institute, young teenage members of the Brotherhood, or even just teenage mutants who haven't chosen a side yet.
Plot Summary:
For years, human-mutant tension in the United States has been a part of daily life. Human children are often taught to fear the "freaks," and mutants are teased, tormented and feared by humans.
All this tension comes to the breaking point one summer with the assassination of several high-ranking anti-mutant government officials, culminating with the assassination of the President in early October.
President Schultz, in an attempt to bring "the true Benedict Arnolds" to justice, has taken away many basic constitutional rights from all mutants in the United States: no freedom of speech, press, or assembly, to name a few. Worst of all, public places are to be segregated and borders are closed, so mutants can't leave the country.
Behind the scenes, though soon to come to the stage, is Robert Linder, a brilliant scientist who hates mutants with a passion. After several years of study and experimentation on mutants, he has come up with a serum that negates mutant powers for short periods-- and a way to end this mutant "problem" once and for all.
President Schultz calls this justice.
Mutants call it genocide.
-----------------------------------
All right, here are the active characters:
Me:
Alicia Renner--Spanish teacher at the Xavier Institute; gravity manipulation (age 20)
Samantha Linder--Member of the Brotherhood and best friend of Alicia Renner; invisibility and telepathic illusions (20)
Daniel Petrinovich--Assassin and guard for Robert Linder, though he has only taken this position to serve as a spy for the mutants; shadow manipulation (22)
Masaki Yamamoto--Childhood friend of Alicia Renner; clairvoyance [the ability to see the future] (20)
Robert Linder--Brilliant scientist bent on "solving the mutant problem" (53)
Everloving:
Faith Evergrove--Former student at the Xavier Institute and ex-member of the brotherhood who has undergone experimentation to greatly enhance her powers; teleportation (17-18)
Hillary Evergrove--Faith's sister; wind manipulation and telepathy (8)
Donathan Evergrove--Faith and Hillary's father; shapeshifting (late 40s or early 50s)
Julia Evergrove--Donathan's ex-wife, soon to marry Robert Linder (creepy, I know) (late 40s or early 50s)
Praven:
Jason--Former student at the Xavier Institute turned emotionless zombie; empathy (17-18)
Varinka--Not completely sure--she works in the lab that enhanced Faith's mutant abilities; something that has to do with enhancing powers (not sure about her age, either)
Duke--Pro-registration mutant and spy for the pro-registration group; water manipulation (16-19)
------------------------------
If you want to play a pro-registration mutant, might I be the first to say THANK YOU! I would, but I don't think I could pull it off. PM Praven for the details.
I'd prefer it if we didn't have any more mutant children, since mutant abilities manifest themselves in the teen years and we already have two active characters whose powers came early. (The other one is Riley Linder, who's still a baby and his parents, Robert and Julia, are clueless.)
No Class 5 mutants, either. It makes the game more fun if all characters have limits. Here's a guide to mutant classes:
Class 1: Barely a mutant--mutations include things such as an extra bone in the wrist, 'elf ears,' etc.
Class 2: Powers include things like wings, the ability to stick to walls (but nothing else), etc. EX: Angel.
Class 3: The most common class. Powers such as laser vision, telepathy and telekinesis begin in this class. EX: Cyclops, Mystique.
Class 4: Power types in this class are usually powers found in Class 3 mutants, though far stronger. EX: Wolverine, Magneto, Prof. X.
Class 5: The rarest and most powerful class of all. In this class, the powers are so strong that they must be carefully controlled. EX: Jean Grey (the only Class 5 mutant in the movies)
As the name "Class" implies, mutants are born into their classes. Only through scientific enhancement (and a fair amount of luck) can a mutant move up a class.
---------------------------------
When creating your character(s), be creative, but be sure to give them limits. In other words, if your character is all-powerful or close to it without any limits or downsides, I will politely ask you to tone it down a little. If you refuse, I will politely kick you out of the thread. Harsh, maybe, but I've been in too many threads where characters are all-powerful and it turns the whole thread into a contest of who's the strongest. And that doesn't make for a good story.
-------------------------------------
I'll post all the complex charater relationships later. Until then, post your characters or a link to their threads here so I can approve them. (For those of you who are panicking and calling me a dictator, the only way I'll tell you to go back and fix it is if your character doesn't have any personality flaws or is too powerful.)
