  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Looking to buy an RPG, any suggestions?

I like an indepth and great story line that isn't final fantasy and is on PS2 or PSP. I just finish Valkerie Profiles 2: Silmerria and it was awesome, it is hard to beat that except if you play FF12 which I wont because others I work with are currently already playing it and it kind of ruins it when you watch the beginnings. So what else is out there that has released in the last year?

Dungeon Siege 2 and Neverwinter Nights 2 leap directly to mind. And of course, Oblivion.
Yeah, but those aren't on the PS2 and PSP like he requested. ;)

I hear the Digital Devil Saga series is quite good - as is Shadow of the Colossus.

I just got Xenosaga (yeah, it is somewhat old), for PS2. I like it, except it broke (not the disc, but I got it to play twice, put 8 hours on it, and then I couldn't get it to play again). It has alot of movie time. Some favorites of mine are Dark Cloud 2 and StarOcean TTEOT, also I like Shining Force Neo. dot Hack (at least as far as I have played) is lacking some story, but I may need to put a few more hours into it before I make an opinion.

Also, if you haven't played it yet, play Chrono Trigger (yes it is for the SNES, but go buy one if you have to, it is my second favorite RPG, and FF3 (or FF6) is first only because it was my first RPg).

I haven't played much of it, but my friend really enjoys Magna Carta. The voice acting is OK, the combat I like more than he does, but he says the story is one of the best, if not the best he's ever seen. I also have enjoyed Star Ocean: Till the End of Time. There's also FF IX (my personal favorite), and Legend of Dragoon. Both are for PSX, but they're well worth it. There's the original Valkyrie Profile if you can afford it ($120 on ebay). I've played very little of it, but I've heard good things, and honestly, if it goes for over $100 used on ebay, it has got to be good.

One thing I like to do is from time to time, go on gamespot or something. You can rank games in different genres by their review rating. And I'll read ones that catch my eye all the way down into the 7's and 6's. Sometimes you spot something that looks pretty good in there. Might be worth your time to try that too.

Since he has a PSP he can just buy Valkyrie Profile Lenneth rather than pay $120 on ebay for the PS1 version. It's definitely worth playing.

As far as PS2 RPGs from the past year, I suggest you try Final Fantasy 12, Grandia III, or Xenosaga Episode 3. Okami is great if you like Zelda type games. Not necessarily an RPG, but still a great game.

That's right, I forgot Lenneth was a remake. Ignore my earlier comment then. Unless you want to spend the money. :p

I actually bought a copy of the PS1 version on ebay a year or two ago. I played through it and thought it was worth every penny. I even regret selling it afterwords despite making a profit. I guess I was wrong to think that the value would drop after the remake was released.

Heck, the value has probably gone up. Affordable way to get the game = more fans = more collectors = more demand.

Yeah, I just expected the value to drop because when Persona 2 and Rhapsody got reprints last year their value dropped in half. I guess a handheld port is different than a reprint. Oh well, Whenever I have more expendable money I'll just bid on another copy. I paid $250 for a copy of Radiant Silvergun in the past so it shouldn't be that hard on me.

Thanks for all the input guys. I just played a demo for a new game called "Rogue Galaxy" last night and it is awesome! I have played most of the games you guys have suggested, except V.P. 1. But Rogue Galaxy, you guys should all go check it out. It comes out on the 30th of this month and looks to be pretty ground breaking!!
