• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

    If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

    If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. My entire life I have heard how worthless I am. My mom would tell me that she knew that I thought I was special but I needed to think again. My dad would tell me flat out that I would never amount to anything and even God says I'm worthless and all I have to do is look it up because it's right in the bible that if a persons prayers are more unanswered than answered God is saying they are worthless. An ex would tell me all the time that I needed to get over myself. A Christian woman I knew once told me I that God put me in a job working in a bad part of town because he was trying to make me get over myself because I thought I was something special. I started crying and she pointed right in my face and yelled "that's what I mean, you are so selfcentered you give way to your emotions all the time. We aren't going to have that crying business around me so stop it right this second". I try to build everyone around me up by telling them how important they are to God but the truth is is I don't know if they are or not. Is there really scripture that says that God views certain people as worthless no matter how much they love Him? All I have found is where Jesus says there will come a time when many will come to me and say Lord, Lord, we cast out demons in your name. But I will say to them get away from me.

If you comment please be kind. I just need to know if the scripture my dad was talking about really exist

Hi Misty,

I have been reading the Bible for over 50 years and have never come across anything like that. Of course some people have their own interpretations and those who have told you this may have been taught that and be passing it on without studying it for themselves.
Don't let others negativity be your negativity.

Also as far as God answering prayers I can tell you that he hears and those who ask are given answers, it may not always be what they want because He knows better than us which is why we should pray that his will be done.

That scripture you references is speaking about those who pretend to know him because they did such and such in his name but they never had a true relationship with him by keeping his commandments.

Many will twist scripture to their own understanding or to what they want it to say for many different reasons.

I am sorry your parents have told you these things, everyone is special in that they are unique and a creation of God.

Psalm 8:1-6 “Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory in the heavens. Through the praise of children and infants you have established a stronghold against your enemies, to silence the foe and the avenger. When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them? You have made them a little lower than the angels and crowned them with glory and honor. You made them rulers over the works of your hands; you put everything under their feet.”

John 16:33 “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

Forgive those who are not charitable of heart, like that Christian woman you encountered. It sounds like jealousy on her part, rather than sincere compassion.

As to your question about whether God views certain people as worthless no matter how much they love Him, I don't know that there is a scripture that says that expressly.
There were the son's of Eli whom the scriptures refer to as worthless. And this because they did not know God.
There is the passage that talks about worthless scoundrels that defied Solomon's son Rehoboam. But those too were men who did not know the Lord.

For those that know God and love him, I don't know of any passage wherein God calls them worthless.

If you love God why would you think him capable of creating you to be worth-less? He let his only begotten son die for you so that you'd not perish for being completely aligned with the ways of this world. But come to know there is more, there is righteousness, that can save you from it.
:hug:I pray God brings you peace.

Jesus said, “Do not be anxious for your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor for your body, what you will wear. Is life not more important than food and the body more than clothing? See the birds of the sky. They do not sow neither do they reap nor gather into barns, but your heavenly Father feeds them. You are much more value than birds” (Matthew 6:25 & 26). “Two sparrows are sold for a coin. Not one of them falls to the ground apart from your Father's will, but the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Therefore do not be afraid. You are of more value than many sparrows” (Matthew 10:29 to 31). "What man is there among you who has a sheep and if it falls into a pit on the Sabbath day, would he not grab it and lift it out? Man is much more value than a sheep!" (Matthew 12:11 & 12).

I will give few of my favorite Bible quotes.

None of us are worthless. All of us are sinners, and we shouldn't think we are better than others - but that's why we have Christ. None of us can boast, and none of us should put each other down. But worthless and undeserving of God's love? Never. God's love isn't deserved. We never deserved it, He gave it, and He still gives it freely. No matter who you are, no matter what you've done. So instead of racing against each other in some kind of weird competition, we should all just be thankful and loving - not putting burdens on each other or jumping higher from their backs.

This is from the Gospel according to Matthew:

"“Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
4 Blessed are those who mourn,
for they will be comforted.
5 Blessed are the meek,
for they will inherit the earth.
6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they will be filled.
7 Blessed are the merciful,
for they will be shown mercy.
8 Blessed are the pure in heart,
for they will see God.
9 Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they will be called children of God.
10 Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven."

Just look at it, sister. Does it say "blessed are those who don't cry" or "blessed are those who put others down", or "blessed are those who think they are more righteous than others"? No. God knows we have troubles, He knows we don't know much, He knows we are weak, He knows it all. Also, the "poor in spirit" part. He knows we can feel lost when searching for Him sometimes, and some of us can be disabled and not capable or higher thoughts. No matter what it is, He knows it. If I knew everything about God, would I be poor in spirit? Would I thirst for righteousness? No. I would know anything already, I would have it, and considering I'm just a man, I couldn't even get there anyway. But instead of punishing us, God gives us His mercy. Because He knows. His love is pure. Ours isn't, we treat love often as currency. "I give this to you, now you give that to me". God doesn't deal with currencies.

-------------------

This one I love. It's from Luke 18.

9 To some who were confident of their own righteousness and looked down on everyone else, Jesus told this parable: 10 “Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. 11 The Pharisee stood by himself and prayed: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other people—robbers, evildoers, adulterers—or even like this tax collector. 12 I fast twice a week and give a tenth of all I get.’

13 “But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, ‘God, have mercy on me, a sinner.’

14 “I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”

Let's look at this one. It's not just about Pharisee putting others down, but also about what he claims he is doing for God. And he probably did what he said, and more. In some ways many people would have thought that indeed, that pharisee is a righteous man. But Jesus Christ himself had sympathy for the tax collector. Our saviour himself! The tax collector didn't even know how to pray, he was just ashamed and broken. He was humble, he couldn't even pretend. Isn't that how we often are - a little lost? Often feeling that we are just too bad for God? Yet Christ himself used that man, just like any of us, man or woman, as an example.

--------------

The prodigal son (Luke 15):

“But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him.

21 “The son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.’

22 “But the father said to his servants, ‘Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. 23 Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let’s have a feast and celebrate. 24 For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’ So they began to celebrate.

25 “Meanwhile, the older son was in the field. When he came near the house, he heard music and dancing. 26 So he called one of the servants and asked him what was going on. 27 ‘Your brother has come,’ he replied, ‘and your father has killed the fattened calf because he has him back safe and sound.’

28 “The older brother became angry and refused to go in. So his father went out and pleaded with him. 29 But he answered his father, ‘Look! All these years I’ve been slaving for you and never disobeyed your orders. Yet you never gave me even a young goat so I could celebrate with my friends. 30 But when this son of yours who has squandered your property with prostitutes comes home, you kill the fattened calf for him!’

31 “‘My son,’ the father said, ‘you are always with me, and everything I have is yours. 32 But we had to celebrate and be glad, because this brother of yours was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’”

We stumble. We get lost. We make mistakes, and we do bad things - sometimes willingly, knowing what we are doing. But before we even start to call for God again, He is already there. It's always us who wander around, leave or run away, and He always stays, never leaving. Sometimes we're the prodigal son, sometimes we're the jealous brother. And BOTH have a home.

-------------

Let's look at the criminal next to Christ on the cross. I love this. It is so powerful and telling of the grace of God in Christ. This if from Luke as well.

40 But the other criminal rebuked him. “Don’t you fear God,” he said, “since you are under the same sentence? 41 We are punished justly, for we are getting what our deeds deserve. But this man has done nothing wrong.”

42 Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.”

43 Jesus answered him, “Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.”

The thing is, that criminal could have easily lived a life of crime his whole life. And if not, then at least what he had done got him to the cross, and he acknowledged that he is guilty. He could have easily been something we would call a "bad man". He had probably never spoken to Jesus Before. And what does Christ do? He completely and absolutely sets him free. He forgives his every sin in that very instant. Absolute redemption. Jesus is dying himself, but still showing the grace of God. He gives it freely. Always.

-----------

This is from Paul's letter to the Romans. Paul alone is one of greatest testaments to God's grace. He persecuted and murdered christians. What did he get for it? He was made an apostle, to preach the truth about our saviour Jesus Christ - whom he hated with such passion! Think about it.

14 Accept the one whose faith is weak, without quarreling over disputable matters. 2 One person’s faith allows them to eat anything, but another, whose faith is weak, eats only vegetables. 3 The one who eats everything must not treat with contempt the one who does not, and the one who does not eat everything must not judge the one who does, for God has accepted them. 4 Who are you to judge someone else’s servant? To their own master, servants stand or fall. And they will stand, for the Lord is able to make them stand.

That is not just about food. It's about the differences in our manners and faith. Someone might say to me: "you are not a christian, because you do X.". I might say to him: "you are not a christian. you know nothing about God". We would both be wrong. What that scripture tells us, that we all have our own faith - and even weak faith is faith. We all have different manners and ways of searching for God in Christ. None of us is better than the other. Your faith is yours. Yes, God talks to all, and He gives his grace freely - but we all have our own relationship with him too. Yours is not any worse. It is simply yours, and that is good.

I also like this part of the same book: "We who are strong ought to bear with the failings of the weak and not to please ourselves. 2 Each of us should please our neighbors for their good, to build them up. 3 For even Christ did not please himself but, as it is written: “The insults of those who insult you have fallen on me.” 4 For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might have hope."

So if you have not been supported, the better you know how it important it is. And you just might get even better at it, supporting others. It probably won't comfort you now, but you will have no way of knowing how many people you have supported in the end. And the ones you know or will know, you will see how much difference it makes. God can turn bad things into good things. It's one of those good fruits Jesus spoke about. It's not necessarily about having the greatest life without worries, but these acts of love that do bear fruit - even if we wouldn't see those fruits ourselves. God will comfort us through His word.

---------

and least, but not last:

"The student is not above the teacher, nor a servant above his master. 25 It is enough for students to be like their teachers, and servants like their masters. If the head of the house has been called Beelzebul, how much more the members of his household!"

This is the part where Jesus encourages his disciples for the oppression they will know. This is a good one, because it provides comfort for those who don't have much, who are mocked or attacked or who are suffering: Christ suffered more. For us. He did what we cannot do, and set us all free. He will guide us.

I hope that wasn't too long. Just keep an honest heart and put your hopes and pains in front of Christ in your prayers. In time, you will understand. Us christians can be the absolute worst kind of people to each other. And even for them, we are told to pray for. Instead of fighting, forgiveness and love. It just goes to show that God's love is perfect and greater than we will truly understand.

You are loved, sister.

None is worthless in his eyes John 3:16 tells us enough, God loves us all, and especially those who love Him, He loves them more than all. So regardless of what loveless people say about God, He is love and died loving you and rose loving you and will always love you.

You personal wrongs don't make you worthless to God but much more a challenge to make something beautiful out of that. Not even an ant is worthless, much less those who love God.

David also loved the Lord and see how e battled with the wicked - the wicked are those nasty lies that dwell inside of peoples hearts and make them do unloving things and say untrue things about others.

Be of good courage you are loved unconditionally.

Psalm 35

Contend, Lord, with those who contend with me;
fight against those who fight against me.
Take up shield and armor;
arise and come to my aid.
Brandish spear and javelin
against those who pursue me.
Say to me,
“I am your salvation.”

May those who seek my life
be disgraced and put to shame;
may those who plot my ruin
be turned back in dismay.
May they be like chaff before the wind,
with the angel of the Lord driving them away;
may their path be dark and slippery,
with the angel of the Lord pursuing them.

Since they hid their net for me without cause
and without cause dug a pit for me,
may ruin overtake them by surprise—
may the net they hid entangle them,
may they fall into the pit, to their ruin.
Then my soul will rejoice in the Lord
and delight in his salvation.
My whole being will exclaim,
“Who is like you, Lord?
You rescue the poor from those too strong for them,
the poor and needy from those who rob them.”

Ruthless witnesses come forward;
they question me on things I know nothing about.
They repay me evil for good
and leave me like one bereaved.
Yet when they were ill, I put on sackcloth
and humbled myself with fasting.
When my prayers returned to me unanswered,
I went about mourning
as though for my friend or brother.
I bowed my head in grief
as though weeping for my mother.
But when I stumbled, they gathered in glee;
assailants gathered against me without my knowledge.
They slandered me without ceasing.
Like the ungodly they maliciously mocked;
they gnashed their teeth at me.

How long, Lord, will you look on?
Rescue me from their ravages,
my precious life from these lions.
I will give you thanks in the great assembly;
among the throngs I will praise you.
Do not let those gloat over me
who are my enemies without cause;
do not let those who hate me without reason
maliciously wink the eye.
They do not speak peaceably,
but devise false accusations
against those who live quietly in the land.
They sneer at me and say, “Aha! Aha!
With our own eyes we have seen it.”

Lord, you have seen this; do not be silent.
Do not be far from me, Lord.
Awake, and rise to my defense!
Contend for me, my God and Lord.
Vindicate me in your righteousness, Lord my God;
do not let them gloat over me.
Do not let them think, “Aha, just what we wanted!”
or say, “We have swallowed him up.”

May all who gloat over my distress
be put to shame and confusion;
may all who exalt themselves over me
be clothed with shame and disgrace.
May those who delight in my vindication
shout for joy and gladness;
may they always say, “The Lord be exalted,
who delights in the well-being of his servant.”

My tongue will proclaim your righteousness,
your praises all day long.

Surround yourself with people who appreciate you and add positive experiences to your life. Everyone has worth and value in the sight of God.

I agree that you care too much about what others think. It's been a lifelong battle with me but it's getting better.

Family members and other "Christians" can be tools of the Adversary at times. Size them up carefully and stay away from them if they are a negative influence. Life can be difficult enough as it is.

Your affirmation of others admirable; keep it up. Seek God's approval, stay in the Word and be as obedient as you can. When you make a mistake, learn from it and move on. God bless.

If you feel that others may look down on you, then you are in a good forum. Many folks here in this depression forum feel as if their emotions, and other problems, bring other peoples judgment down on them.

The scripture you mentioned, the one about the Lord rejecting people who call him lord but dont know him, i have wrestled with that one quite often myself. I didn't want to be one of those people. I think that the fact that you consider that scripture is a good thing. Lets hope in the Lord together, and love each other. That's where i feel we will find healing.

We will have struggles but in the end im confident that we will find Gods blessing. Im speaking from experience with many many struggles, and i know that God has not forsaken me, although i have times that feel as if im the worst person in the world. Hope is our salvation sister. Thank you for sharing your story. Im glad to share it.
