I'm looking for quality, free Bible commentaries.

I said "quality" commentaries because I know any Tom/Dick/Harry can jot down his thoughts and print it up as a pdf. I realize there are denominational/doctrinal issues but I like to get many points of view, as long as none of them are too far off mainstream.

Here's what I've found so far:
  • There's about 150 commentaries on studylight.org
  • Matthew Henry's commentary (available many places as a PDF, etc.)
  • J Vernon McGee (free mp3s)
  • Bob Utley (never heard of him, but free mp3s)

Bible Hub and Biblegateway both have free commentaries.

Bible Hub is better as you can click on a verse and get the commentary for that passage.

Stand alone free solid commentaries you can find at Bible Study Light are from John Gill and Matthew Henry. Both hail from the 18th century, are Hebrew and Greek scholars (and other languages) and were not polluted with the heretical theological liberalism of the late 19th century onwards.

Hope this helps.

All the previous posts are good regarding commentaries. I also like Kretzman's commentary which can be found here:

Popular Commentary, by Paul E. Kretzmann

Another one that gets overlooked is the Jamieson, Fawcett and Brown commentary.
Overview - Jamieson, Fausset and Brown's Commentary Critical and Explanatory on the Whole Bible

Also, if you want good bible study program you may want to try Esword. The PC version is donation ware, meaning you do not need to donate to use the program but Rick does appreciate your donation and does update the program. The Mac version is $10.
