Hey, I was brought up in an Athesist house and up untill 4 months ago i didnt believe at all i hate him accully. But I meet my gf.....Temster also a poster person in the fourm. Well when you date a christian you quite often hear the word of God expescially when you go to church with her every Sunday morning and attend other things for Christians. Ive continued to attend these because Iam beginning to bleieve in Jesus and God. I have read part of the bible and even along side my gf, because I dont really understand it and need it explaind. But I am wonder if you guys/girls have any ideas that could bring me closer to him. Thanks for your help.

Hi Skaven, 
I don't know whether it was lack of sleep on my part due to this heat or me just being an ole sentimental fool but I was touched by your post this morning and I gave you most of my blessings!
You see, my background was similar to yours and eventually I did have that relationship with Him (Praise God). After I realised that God existed, and I'd bought my first Bible, my next step was to actually call on Him. I felt abit silly at first because I'd never prayed before. Plus I didn't know how to pray. But I'd found Matthew 7:7&8 which kind of gave me the confidence to just do it:
So, that was what worked for me - I remember being alone after work and I just asked God to show me who He was. I remember saying something on the lines of "Okay..... you've got my attention.... now just who ARE you?"
Ask your girlfriend to pray for you and I will also add you to my prayers.
The Lord continue to bless you and keep you!

i thank you for your prayers i also found it weird the first time i prayed..I prayed to him for the first time because my girlfriend described what heave and hell were like and her description of hell really scared me. I prayed that nite that he could some how help me find the right door to open..The one that leads me to heaven....and just being on these fourms and gettin the replys iam(i have this post on 7 differnt forums, cuz 7 is gods number) just makes me feel closer to him.

Skaven, it seems like your girlfriend is a wonderful person. Most of all, I think it would be good to talk to the elders/leader of the church. They'd probably love to talk with you.
I'm going to give a bit of the gospel in the way that changed everything for me (I used to be a horrible skeptic).
Okay, we've got God, right? God is perfect and holy. God made us to be with Him, but we sinned. Sin keeps us from God because He can't have sin. But he loved us, so He sent Jesus, who lived a perfect life and never sinned, to take the punishment for our sins, to which He didn't contribute. Through Him we can be with God, kind of like a bridge over the gap, see? To cross the bridge there's not a fee, but we do have to accept the gift God has for us by Admitting we've done thing wrong, Believing that Jesus Christ died to take our sins, and Choosing God's gift.
There it is, hope it's not over-simplified or anything.

you guys are awsome im there! i have gotten such a great response in the last 12 hours! I have this post on several message boards and just seeing how complete strangers care its great. Like 15 minutes ago i confessed to god..I LOVE IT IVE NEVER BEEN HAPPIER! Man I gotta phone my gf....shes gonna like breakdown in tears to this as im darn close to crying myself

Dear Skaven,I am praying for you and thanking God that you have discovered His love and infinite mercy.
Read the bible and pray, the first few times i found myself talking to God it felt a bit strange but now it feels so so natural.

There is a royal road to intimacy with Christ, Skaven, and it may well be that you already started on it a long, long time ago; and what went round in a good way then, has been coming round now. I mean a care for those who most need it most, an eye and heart for those who suffer, whether from poverty, or bullying or whatever.
I once wrote an open letter to a neocon British politician in a newspaper here in the UK, and told him be would be well advised not to look to closely at the faces of the people huddled in shop doorways, as he passed them in the street, as it might well be that one of those faces would be the face of Christ that he sees scrutinising him on Judgment day, if he didn't change his outlook.
What you are now experiencing may be a small foretaste of the welcome that "the sheep" may hear from him on that day.
It's funny how happiness spreads isn't it? It sounds as if the recent experiences you've been kind enough to describe to us have given many of us a real lift.
Of course, you'll have crosses, as well as blessings in your Christian life, but I can tell you that the flea-bites I suffered as a young agnostic caused me immense unhappines and bitterness compared to what I have suffered since - which technically ought to have been worse. But, they been pretty much like water off a ducks back. Your girl-friend may be able to tell you the story of the footsteps in the sand, if you don't know it.

Congratulations, Skaven! I have recently found my way back to the Lord, and let me tell you - my entire life is changing for the better! I'm not depressed or bitter from past wrongs that have been done to me, I'm become more selfless and less selfish, I have hope - I'm just plain HAPPY! As you begin to study the scriptures (I chose the King James version because I could better understand what I was reading), a feeling begins to come over you - at least it did for me. It was as if my heart and soul were numb, jaded by the evil in the world and my inability to forgive. As I began to read and understand the Bible, it was as if God's light shone on me, warming my heart and soul again...helping me feel sincere happiness and love again, making me look forward to each new day even in the worst of times - because as each day passes I am just that much closer to an eternity of a love, peace, and happiness with Our Father that is so intense and pure that my imagination could never grasp the depth of its bliss. Hi Skaven. It sounds as though you have enterd into the born again experience that Jesus explained to Nicodemus.
I'm praying that your thirst for the knowledge of truth continues, and that the seed which was planted will not be snatched away or get choked out and die.
May the Spirit of God protect you from the enemy and also be your guiding light as you continue to seek the Truth.
May you come to know that Jesus is the Truth and His love for us is great.
May you accept Jesus as Lord of your life and present yourself to Him, just as you are, as a living sacrifice. May you walk in the light as He is in the light.
May you come to love Jesus forever, and thus live forever.
"We love Him because He first loved us."

When I first became a Christian what helped was a little Bible the girl who witnessed to me gave me. She had it highlighted and marked up in places for me to turn. Honestly, the Holy Spirit will be working on you now. We can encourage you, but the change is between you and a very personal and loving Savior, Jesus Christ.
Keep praying and reading. Always stay broken before Him, knowing Whom it is who saved you.
God is always in control and He'll work it out. Romans 8:28. Also, read the Book of 1 John.
