Our witness attempts can be few and far between if we simply sit on the curb and wait for God to bring sinners to us (though it no doubt happens).

Look for opportunities to witness! Make yourself available and God WILL use you!!

Get out there in the world. The great commission (is a command not a suggestion :) )

Matthew 28:19
Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

All nations includes
1. Your house
2. Your street
3. Your work
4. Your friends
5. Your city
6. Your country
7. All the countries of the world.

Have any of you had a unique witness/preaching opportunity?

Would it surprise you to know that I preached my first sermon in a Catholic church (much to the dismay of the priest, who turned at least 88 shades of red before I finished)?

Plant! Water! and trust in God for the increase!

Awesome post BT!

We are to "look" for opportunities to share our faith. We are to be "light" and "salt".
We also need to make sure we are "equipped" to share our faith/the gospel to others.

..............
I totally agree. It is so important to know the Word of God. Not just for ourselves but for sharing that Word with others. The Holy Spirit can work wonders through even the most ill-equipped person when He see's fit but it is so helpful to know what we, as believers are talking about.

God Bless,
Frankie

That's great Crystal! I bet the songs do a lot. There is much that we contribute to that we don't ever know about it. It's how, I find, God often works. Keep up the great work!

How did you get the Catholic Church to let you preach?!
I'm kind of a quiet person, but just last week, I got to bring a friend to church with me. I thought that was pretty cool.
It was at my father's funeral last year. My family, as most of you know are all Catholics. My father, though baptized in a Catholic church, had absolutely no use for catholicism. To keep my aunts happy I didn't argue when they begged to have him buried with a catholic funeral. To us, it's just a body in a box, he was already gone.

So when it came time for the funeral arrangements I told my aunts that I had something to say at the mass. They penciled me in.

I didn't really know what I was going to say, but I knew that I may never have a better opportunity to get them all together in one place and thinking about life and God and what happens at the end than this. So I prayed hard and read my Bible a lot (I did that when my dad was sick and I sat with him in the hospital for hours everyday.. just read him the Bible). I finally started to write what turned out to be a sermon from 2 Samuel 12.

During the funeral mass I was waiting for my turn to go up. The mass went on and they skipped over me for some strange reason. As the priest came down from the platform and did his bit over the casket I said to God, "Well I'm going to take from this that You don't want me to speak. You know best."

The priest was preparing to lead the coffin out of the church when suddenly my mousy uncle popped up and stopped the procession (I and all the family were shocked). He said "Father so and so Brent (that's me :) ) has something to say." So the priest stood still and I walked up to the pulpit, not a pulpit like in our churches.. it's off to the side and is where the laymen do the readings and stuff.

So my sermon was about my dad and how he searched for God during his life, and at the end finally Jesus Christ reached down and met him. (My father was a death-bed conversion). I talked about how he'd looked in all kinds of places even cults (he was with the JW's for awhile) and never found what he was looking for. I read from 2 Samuel 12 the account of David's lost son. I finished the sermon with verse 23 "But now he is dead, wherefore should I fast? can I bring him back again? I shall go to him, but he shall not return to me." The emphasis was the last part "I shall go to him, but he shall not return to me." I urged his friends and family that if they ever wanted to see him again they must look into this Jesus person. They must find out what the Bible says, and teaches. That though my dad was gone and I'd miss him terribly, I know that I WILL see him again.

So it was during this that I thought the priest was going to have a stroke or whip something at me. He did turn 88 shades of red and didn't speak to me at all afterwards though he comforted the rest of the family. I don't mind.

And that is the story around how I preached my first sermon in a Catholic church.
