"But the ship was now in the midst of the sea, tossed with waves: for the wind was contrary." (Matt. 14:24)

Earlier on Jesus fed 5,000 men without counting women and children. If I were Him I would been carried away in the euphoria of celebrating this level of achievement, but not Jesus. He immediately dispatched His disciples, dismissed the multitude and went up to a mount to pray to God.

While the disciples were on the sea, it went contrary against them. Jesus was prepared for this moment; He had been to the mount to pray to the Father.

What makes us to suffer defeat after a major breakthrough is our natural tendencies to spend time celebrating successes. But the Bible says forgetting the past. These include both the successes and failures of the past. We must quickly forget them, otherwise the enemy will bring us down in our next contest with him.

What makes us to suffer defeat after a major breakthrough

What you ignore is what can be seen throughout creation.
That God uses cyclical waves of energy.
The wind is not constant but comes in gusts, all energy is in a wave form with highs and lows.

This is also seen in our spiritual life, we have times of spiritual highs followed by a spiritual low.
Examine the lives of the men of God and the periods of high and lows in there lives.
