That lady paid $50,000 for a kitten that has the genetic makeup of a 17 year old cat.
Can you say... dead within a year or so? What a waste.
Interesting, I never thought of it that way.RhetorTheo said:When Dolly was cloned, there were questions about how long she would live. There is something called "telomeres" that function as an internal clock and determine how old you are physically. I'm not sure if they solved the problem, or if it's not a problem at all.

Maybe there's better things she should be spending her money on than a new cat, but I don't particularly have a problem with cloning animals. If it were people, I'd have a big problem with it, but not cats.Brother Simon said:I, for one, oppose.![]()

Yep.boughtwithaprice said:Wasn't Little Nicky an Adam Sandler movie where he was a child of the Devil?
Oooops . . . sorry.boughtwithaprice said:I thought that is what this thread was about![]()

But, one thing leads to another. Unfortunately, if cloning animals or pets becomes an acceptable practice, then it will be only a matter of time before humans and children are cloned.Paul S said:Maybe there's better things she should be spending her money on than a new cat, but I don't particularly have a problem with cloning animals. Crispie said:Actually, the 17 year old cat has had that same genetic makeup its whole life. Genetic makeup in an individual is a constant. When that cat was cloned, the cloned cat did have the same genetic makeup as that 17 year old cat, but is in a state where its just a kitten, identicle to 17 year old cats "kitten age". The cloned cat will probably live to be 15-20 years of age.

Remember, DNA has errors in its copying mechanisms. Mutations, not matter how small they are, do happen.
Sorry, just had to throw that one in there.

I'm not sure - we do many things with animals that would be completely unacceptable with humans. I hope you're wrong, but with the way society's going, you're probably right.racer said:But, one thing leads to another.
