Hey theotherguy,
I'd like to say thanks for dropping by in Origins Theology. Us TE's are more than happy to answer your questions, so I hope you stick around.
Now for your questions. For a start, I'd like to make sure you know that because we are TE's it does not mean that we think that the entire Bible is metaphorical - this is far from the truth. The death and resurrection of Jesus Christ is the most fundamental basis of all Christianity; without believing it I don't think any of us could call ourselves Christians! So we aren't challenging this. The fact is, the Bible is a much more involved book than just 'taking it literally'. There are many parts of the Bible where there are more than one interpretation - this is why there are so many denominations within Christianity; Catholic, Orthdox, Anglican, Methodist, Presbyterian, Lutheran, Pentacostal, Baptist... the list goes on! For TE's, the interpretation of Genesis is just another passage which we believe has another interpretation, which we believe to be valid.
Instead of going through and answering your questions one-by-one, I think it'd be easier if I just give a general overview of what Theistic Evolution is, and our reasons for why we believe what we do. Please note; like YEC's, OEC's, Gap Theorists etc. etc., we do not have the exact same views, but I'll try to cover all bases
. Have to head to sleep now (stupid timezone differences, but I'll post tomorrow morning, my time. (GMT +13:00)
Peace,
Alchemist
