wiseguide said:Personally I wish SNL would feature performers who are good but who may not have a hit song out at the moment. Like when Lorne Michaels requested a Beatles reunion in the 70's and held up a check made out to them.
I saw the story on 60 minutes about this. The head of SNL said that SNL was not told that she was going to lip synch. In rehearsal she performed live. But, she was having trouble with her voice and wasn't sure if she would be able to perform. The lip synch, wrong song thing was a surprise to them though because Ashlee Simpson and her band neglected to mention it was going to happen.wiseguide said:What did you think of this live event on Saturday Night Live? Did anyone see it? I missed it.
Lip-synching has always been a part of television programs. On American Bandstand that was the way it was always done. But SNL has always featured real, live performances.
Ashlee claims that she had problems with her voice that night or some excuse to that effect. Then the producers of SNL had a mixup with the voice track. But SNL is not used to having voice tracks to begin with.
Personally, I think it was the fault of SNL for choosing such a talentless act as Ashlee Simpson in the first place. SNL used to have better live acts in the past.
What do they expect?
Yeah he was the only one. Paul appeared a few times actually. Leave it to Lennon lolwiseguide said:In an interview Paul McCartney said that he and John Lennon were at John Lennon's apartment in New York City watching the show when live when that happened. He said that he had wanted to go down to the studio that night but John was against the idea.
I think John was the only Beatle who never appeared on SNL. Paul, George and Ringo each appeared on the show as solo acts at different times.

I get a sad sick feeling inside because of Milli Vanilli...Milli Vanilli got their grammy's taken away because they weren't singing AT ALL...on a voice track or otherwise. There were completely different people singing for them.
Yes I know that, but lipsynching is lipsynching, whether it is your own voice or not. I persoanlly see no difference between the two, both are just lying to the fan anyways... I still don't think it is acceptable. Just because I can go into a studio, have my voice doctored and sound like a diva, doesn't mean I am an artist... it's kind of sad really..Milli Vanilli got their grammy's taken away because they weren't singing AT ALL...on a voice track or otherwise. There were completely different people singing for them.
Rob Pilatus of the successful but disgraced lip-synch group, Milli Vanilli, was found dead in a Germany hotel room on April 2nd. Early reports stated a mix of alcohol and pills may be related to his death. Pilatus, who was 32, had a self-admitted history of problems with substance abuse, depression and suicide ideation. Pilatus, also a former model and dancer, was found alone in the hotel room according to a German newspaper which also had comments from Milli Vanilli's former manager/producer Frank Farian: "I'm totally shocked. Rob looked really good again after his therapy, and was full of optimism... we didn't know.. that he was taking tablets that are very dangerous with alcohol." The other half of Milli Vanilli, Fabrice Morvan, stated: "I am feeling tremendous pain and sorrow upon hearing the news of my friend and brother Rob. He will always be a part of me. I will deeply miss Rob forever... Milli Vanilli was not a disgrace. The only disgrace is how Rob died... all alone, internally destroyed from the rapid rise then sudden fall. Where were the ones that pushed us to the top who made millions?"cygnusx1 said:yes they did , and the story went from there to tradgedy ....... whenever I hear "Lipsynch" ......... I don't watch SNL anymore because the writing has radically gone downhill in the 90's, but I have seen re-runs of the Simpson fiasco on a VH1 show. Her drummer messed up and then she started dancing hokey-style LOL. Sir Elton John later said that he felt vindicated after that since he got flak for criticising Madonna for lip-synching at her concerts. Way to go ELTON!!!!!!wiseguide said:What did you think of this live event on Saturday Night Live? Did anyone see it? I missed it.
ROFLOL! ITA-Simpson doesn't have much (if any) talent. If you perform on a live show then it should always be live not Milli Vinnilied-I really don't care for her lame excuse that her throat was bothering her. Speaking of Milli Vinnili-I think they had more "talent" than Ashlee Simpson does!Personally, I think it was the fault of SNL for choosing such a talentless act as Ashlee Simpson in the first place.
