What did you think of this live event on Saturday Night Live? Did anyone see it? I missed it.

Lip-synching has always been a part of television programs. On American Bandstand that was the way it was always done. But SNL has always featured real, live performances.

Ashlee claims that she had problems with her voice that night or some excuse to that effect. Then the producers of SNL had a mixup with the voice track. But SNL is not used to having voice tracks to begin with.

Personally, I think it was the fault of SNL for choosing such a talentless act as Ashlee Simpson in the first place. SNL used to have better live acts in the past.

What do they expect?

I think the vast majority of singers probably use voice tracks...the only time you find out about it is when the track screws up. I don't take it personally, I just take it as a given...and then I'm pleasantly surprised when I find out there are a few who really don't use voice tracks.

I can't say I wasn't happy at the fact that atleast her fans know the truth now: She can't sing. I hate seeing artists constantly trick young kids into thinking they have abilities they only posess using programs. That's what music is nowadays. Programs. Robots. It's sad.

I watched the 60 Minute special on it; she used every excuse in the book. Acid Reflux? Um, no. Oh, ya, she also tried blaiming it on the band.

I'm sort of glad her moment of fame is up. If I have to hear "Pieces of Me" one more time (which I know I will somehow) I will explode.

I read on Yahoo that her drummer is taking the fall.

Bottom line, I don't think this will be a career killer. Now days, any publicity is good. It was pretty funny and it did show just how shallow these performers are. Before SNL, Ashlee was quoted as saying that she was totally against the whole idea of lip synching because it was cheating the fans of what they paid to see. Well, I guess nobody really paid to see her on SNL so does that mean they got what they paid for?

yeah, i guess her drummer apologized, but then she fired him. i saw this happen.

the funny thing is that i think the whole band was on a track too, because the drummer started playing and he was totally not synched up with the music. it was rediculous.

lol. and yeah, i would say a vast majority of POP artists are doing this. they're so focused on how their dancing/choreography looks, that they can't possibly concentrate on that AND singing well.

it's sad, but true.

I find it funny that everyone is so accepting of the fact that she is lipsynching... I mean so many of the Pop acts do it, but it doesn't mean it should be acceptable. I mean when Milli Vanilli were found to be lip synching everyone went up in arms and they had their grammy's taken away and everything. Yet maybe 12 years later, we find it acceptable and think nothing of it. I find it sad that an artist feels they have to lip synch, if I go to a concert i want to hear THEM actually singing... it's really quite sad that this type of thing is now accepted...

I was thinking....
is it that big of a deal? I mean, really, who cares.
Yeah, the SNL thing was kindof funny. and the jig was hilarious
but if her fans like her, and don't mind the lipsynching, then ok.

Something that does bother me,
an ENTIRE show about it????? come on now

Milli Vanilli got their grammy's taken away because they weren't singing AT ALL...on a voice track or otherwise. There were completely different people singing for them.

At least it was Ashlee's voice on the voice track...

This happened to Jan and Dean (60's surf duo) once also. They lip synched to one of their own records live and it started skipping. It was dramatized in a TV movie called "Dead Man's Curve."

Lip synching does happen. Some performers are even forced to do it. But Ashlee's case was different. She chose to do it on a program that discourages it.

Personally I wish SNL would feature performers who are good but who may not have a hit song out at the moment. Like when Lorne Michaels requested a Beatles reunion in the 70's and held up a check made out to them.
