Is there a conection that connects the ephod and Worship? Why did Samul and David wear the ephod to worship God?

As I understand the significance of them wearing a linen ephod, was to shed their royal robes of authority, and association of any high position they held, before the Lord during worship.

As for my take on the issue of the ephod, I think we may have to look at the material of the ephod that was being put on. The ephod was made of five materials: gold, blue, purple, scarlet, and fine twined lined threads.

Gold would speak to us of putting on the brilliance and splendour of the Heavenlies.

Blue would speak to us of putting on the Power of Lion of Jehovah.

Purple would speak to us of putting on the royalty of being a son and a joint heir with Jesus.

Scarlet would speak to us of putting on the worms nature or the humility that causes us to see and recognize the Father for who He is.

Fine twined linen would speak to us of putting on the twisted (thus making stronger) ability of Jesus' to bleach our sins and make them white as the new snow.

When we see all of these things, I can understand why God would require the priest to wear the ephod--thereby reminding them of those five principles and freeing them to worship.

Only the high priest was supposed to wear the brightly-colored ephod - it is likely that the "linen ephod" that the boy Samuel wore was the ordinary garment of the priests, probably plain white.

Later David wore that same garment - and as conscientious as David was concerning lines of authority, I'm sure he wore the plain garment, not the fancy one - besides, Michal his wife was upset about the fact that he wasn't all decked out..... I think the reason David wore this garment was because to show himself to be a servant of God like the priests - he was not dancing before God in his capacity as King but in his position of servant before Him.

What's the old story about linen being worn because it would not make the priest sweat???

Thus came about the "No Sweat" sermons from many preachers over the past few years.

No sweat - as in "no work" (or sweat) of your own is able to persuade or impress the Lord.

Linen is a very cool material.

As RP said, it has to do with "no-sweat" service.

Our service to God and even our worship must not contain human effort or "works".
