  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Like Documentaries? List one that you've seen and has made an impression on you.

Excellent thread idea. I shall use it for ideas to take to the library.

My sister has told me (a couple of times) to watch The Corporation, but I haven't gotten around to it, even though I believe Hulu has the full film. She's a fan of Manufacturing Consent, too.

An Inconvenient Truth (It made me interested in taking environmental sciences classes and a social science class related to that topic when I was in school, instead of taking other classes to fulfill my science requirements)

Walmart: The High Cost of Low-Price (it made me boycott Walmart for awhile, then my financial status got even lower and it's now one of my preferred stores
:sorry:)

Flow: For the Love of Water

Tried looking up my old thread, but realized I hadn't put much in there; I was merely asking for suggestions. :sorry:

This is still a favorite of mine.

Some that I've seen that have impacted me in some way:

Born Into Brothels
Supersize Me
King Corn
Super High Me (although...)
Rize
Food Matters
Jesus Camp (yikes)
The Business of Being Born
Babies
Mad Hot Ballroom
Baby Beauty Queens
In Pot We Trust

The most memorable documentary I've seen is Michael Moore's Roger & Me, about the economic disaster that hit Flint, Michigan, after General Motors closed its plants there. It was touching because in the footage, Flint looks a lot like my hometown of Lexington, Ky.

YouTube - Roger and me

I also watched on called The War Tapes, about the second Iraq War, made by American soldiers themselves.

The Age of AIDS. I am truly in love with Edwin Cameron. :swoon:
The Private Dirk Bogarde. Physically, one of the most beautiful men to ever grace the screen, but he was not just a pretty face. Much better than the Rank Organization's cleaned-up version.
This Film is Not Yet Rated.
Hiroshima.
I Love Being HIV+. If you have any problem with frank discussion about gay sex, I suggest you do not watch. But truly, one of the weirdest docs I have ever seen.
The Putin System.

Thanks for the ideas, everyone. I started watching "born into brothels" last night...but had a hard time finishing it. Very sad.

This is still a favorite of mine.

Thanks for the link!

Everyone wants to watch a chic flick due to this I've only seen a few. I wait till everyone leaves so I can secretly watch a documentary. That is how nerdy I am. I've only seen a few and I like them, find them interesting like the one on mcdonalds and what it does to you or ones about deep sea creatures. I only like comical chic flicks. I don't know. Mix some adventure in there too like sahara minus mcauhnahay (sp).
