Lighting a candle?

I've gleaned a little about what lighting a candle is for, from movies, but I really don't know what it is all about. Does it signify an ongoing prayer?

Candles, to Catholics, well, at least to me, are just used to make everything much more holier.

Ya know, take the lighting down in the room a few notches, light a few candles, turn on some meditation music, and you're good to go.

Yep ligthing a candle symbolizes an on going prayer

In the cathedral, at every place where you can light a candle, there's a text. I don't know it exactly by heart, but what it says is basically this:

"I have little time... so little time to pray...
I don't know the right words... the right words to pray.
I fail in my heart, when I try to make it right to pray..

With this candle: I live a bit of the best of myself, the smallest of myself to pray.
I leave a bit of my heart, a bit of my words, a bit of my time... here to pray."

At one Bible Study the Msr. had a candle lit and told us that the light symbolizes our Lord. He dimmed all the lights and told us to pray on the meaning of Jesus being the light of the world. Wooo, that was really eye opening, and I got a little teary. I think it was the Paschal Candle, but that can go for any candle. Also I think the smoke from the candle, much like incense, is like our prayers and thoughts going up to the Lord. Our hearts burn for Christ, and he is the light of the world, how can it get any better than that?
