it seems to me that the individuals in the bible represent lifestages.
adam-the stage when we become human
cain-the stage when sin first happens
noah-the stage when we become 'righteous' (hence noahides)
abraham-the stage when we become born again theists

but i cant imagine what moses or solomon or the captivity represent.
and i guess the cross represents our death.

is there a word for this particular way of looking at the bible?

Yes, but it has fallen into disuse. This is called the analogical or "spiritual" interpretation, which the early church fathers considered the most valuable or important or true reading of scripture.
