• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

As Christians we have a heavenly Father who loves us unconditionally and will never leave us. Do we really need more then that?

Life can be really difficult when we're depressed but if we keep our focus completely on God, we will soar on wings like eagles over our situations.

Just a thought (not trying to say I'm right and anyone else is wrong), but aren't we always soaring with God through our troubles? He holds us as we go through them, sometimes we simply forget to trust in Him and know that all is going to be all right. And so, we cling tighter. So tightly in fact, that we can't even see Who is holding us.

Kind of like the old footprints in the sand story...

Aye,

More like a great Father with so many children and gives his hand in love. Sometimes he lets his foolish children walk on their own and when they come to realize they can't do it on their own, he listens.

Trying to evolve a new look at depression. With it's deceitful and sedicutive as it is, it's a universal indicator that there is a or many dysfunction(s) taken root. Meh.. I will spare you all my train of thought. lol

Oh, the Almighty gave me wings like eagles alright. But somewhere along the flight, some friendly fire made holes in them and now I'm dragging through the mud.

Ask Him to fix your wings so you can soar again.

The reason I posted earlier on, is because there are many Christians who do not feel like praising and jumping and singing and who do not feel close to God as they struggle in life.

So spoiltbrat, please know that you are perfectly normal in how you feel.

We don't all get healed in this life.

Job in the bible didn't go around singing praises.

There are people many wonderful strong Christians that can't even pray they are so troubled.

This is very normal.

Blessings,
tapero

Wouldn't hurt to find a good healing ministry, but the bible never said it's instantious. We have to carry our own cross, just like Jesus did.

I been thinking about my latest problems in reguard to what I see is path god layed out. Seems my discontentment of my situation is the trigger to my depressive pains or hollowness.

More I try to understand depression, causes and effects, the more TLB's orginal statement is true.

Good afternoon. God is all that anyone needs, but unless you have truly ever been depressed, I mean the bottom of the barrel depressed, it is hard to even pray or feel Gods presence. I have heard some people say that "True Christians don't get depressed." It is hard to be depressed and Christian, very hard! It takes more faith to hold on to the fact that God exisits when your situation is screaming out that even if there was a God, he hates me, than it does when all is going your way. Hebrews 11:1- Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. How much faith does it take to hold onto your Christian faith when emotions scream at you daily to give up, get out and avoid God? Most of the time depressed Christians will be hanging onto faith by their fingernails in a situation that requires more faith than the average. It really does feel good to soar with God! But sometimes it is really hard. I hang onto knowing that God will never leave me or forsake me. Take care.

I can see how that can work for Christians, but what about us non-Christians? You're not on the Christians-only section, you know. :-/

but unless you have truly ever been depressed

Listen here: The enemy uses every tactic possible to take you off your course including GUILT & DEPRESSION. The battle is 1/2 in the mind. IF the enemy can get in there and make u start to doubt, feel inadequate etc. he can get a hold...

This is why we must fight..Be your own cheerleader. Don't go by how u feel go by what u know.
I realize this is easier said than done, but you must try.

Start with first fruit affirmations each am.

Example: I am blessed and highly favored.
No weapon formed against me will stand (Notice there will be weapons)
God does not make junk.
The Battle is not mine.

Even if you feel like bugdo say these things. Keep quips and quotes in places you can see them throughout the day. PLAY UPLIFITING MUSIC.

Fight this thing--if you do -- you will win.
Prayers Dee

But dee it's an illness, You can't fall over break your leg and say the devil broke my leg you need to let it heal correctly
I agree with Dee.

Illness may be true, just don't use that line of thinking to prevent you from truely locating the cause or triggers to your depression.

I can speak only from experience, the person who cause my loneliness pains..was me. I have to overcome myself to heal myself. Like a child I want my wife now, but all it does is cause me pain. I huger for love, because I created that vacuum. I have to get myself out of the way so I can let and care about new people around me. Also I need to build a stronger relationship with Christ, so I don't fall backwards again.

Just saying, might have to look deep into your heart and wonder what is causing the depression. Why do I behave this way? As in my case I was blind to it until recent.

Depression is a medical illness. Bi-polars get highs and lows, manic and depressed, and it is not because they are feeling sorry for themselves or such. It's a medical illness.

There are varying degrees of depression however and perhaps that is what you are speaking to.

I just don't want anyone here who is depressed to feel that they should be something that they can not be.

Being a Christian doesn't mean we will be healed immediately, it just means that we have God to rely on and He will see us through our bad times.

I started this thread when my depression was controlled by meds. For some reason today my meds let me down even though I've been taking them regularly. I've realised that you don't fly like an eagle when you're depressed, you just try to crawl through the mud.
