  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

First off, I'm in no ways a wise person (although I'd wish myself that status), but I can tell you the ideals that I use on my own spiritual journey.
I find that the map we take is laid out in the bible, much like a geographic map to a destination. Most people enjoy pulling out the geography book and studying the maps, but never go and study the territory itself. What better way to finding "the way" then to search and find it firsthand. Why look at the proverbial pictures and experiences of others who have taken the journey when you can find the destination yourself and revel in being there!
Enjoy the trip instead of worrying about the gas to get you there!! :)

Well, I suppose before one can really search for wisdom, one has to know just what wisdom is in the first place.

In modern times, a person who knows much about the consequences of actions is considered wise. However, scripture tells us that all wisdom is fear of the Lord. That is to say, that true wisdom is not merely a knowledge of actions and consequences, but seeing things as God sees them.

Seeing things as God sees them is being able to discern the hidden good and beauty as well as the hidden dangers and obstacles. We learn from the story of Solomon, that the surest way to gain wisdom is not by seeking it from man, but asking God for it. God, through His Holy Spirit, will guide our ways and set our eyes upon Him. In setting our sights on God, we begin to see all things In the light of His wisdom which is the only true wisdom.

In short, the only real wisdom any person can accumulate is through learning to submit and conform themselves to God's will. In doing this, we learn that true wisdom is not something we possess internally, but something we participate in through closer and closer communion with God.

It would not be fair for me to offer wisdom to you as I am a nonbeliever. However, if you have not read any CS Lewis, might I suggest you read him. He is a wonderful source of wisdom for the Christian and non-Christian alike.

I am a philosophy major (incidentaly non christian, but that has nothing to do with my major), and philosophy, when it is broken down, means "lover of wisdom". So as a lover of widom, I am qualified to give you all kinds of advise that is garenteed to be wise ;)

First off, Know thyself. Thats Socraties, the one the gods declared was the wisest man alive, so it should be important.

Secondly, understand this one phrase; "People matter more than the truth". Make it your mantra. It means making peoples lives tangibly better is far more important that dogma, of any religion or group.

Go by those two things, and you will be on the right path towards wisdom. That or a mostly useless degree in philosophy. :p

Don't trust something just because someone tells you it's in the bible. Always look for yourself. If you want to find Christian wisdom then you have to do your own research in the bible, you can't rely on someone else to do it for you.

The book of Proverbs begins with a section on wisdom. One of wisdom's characteristics is that it "seeks knowledge and understanding". Read widely and well in a variety of subjects, christian and non christian. Unless we are conversant with the thoughts of others we suffer from ignorance of much of life, and we cannot engage such people in meaningful dialogue about the relevance of God to their lives. MyChristianunderstanding has grown enormously as I have responded to teh challenge of finding a reasoned biblical perspective to many issues raised by non christians
