Name: Liesel Marsden

Nickname: Lee

Age: Now 29

Appearance: Beautiful, with platinum blond hair and blue eyes, Liesel used to care quite a bit about her appearance. She would brush her hair silky-smooth every morning and put it in a perfect movie-star updo before she went to work as a waitress, hoping that each day would be the day a talent scout discovered her and whisked her away to stardom. After The Day, however, she began wearing only the basic amount of makeup--blush, mascara and lipstick--and was content to pull her curly hair back in a ponytail. She no longer had to exercise to maintain her wispy figure; living off canned food that she carefully rationed kept her skinny.

Personality:Before: Spoiled, childish, bitter. That describes Liesel before The Day. Used to having everything handed to her, the real world came as a rude awakening. Rather than simply accepting it as The Way Things Are, she became bitter about having to work so hard.
After: After The Day, Liesel finally grew up. With the majority of the population gone and no electricity, she had to rely on herself and gain skills she never knew she had. Hunting, for example, used to be something she thought only hairy mountain men in Arkansas and Wyoming who married their cousins did. Soon, she learned that rich-girls-turned-poor did it, too. (Canned food only lasts so long, and Liesel figured she should learn to hunt sooner rather than later.)

History: Before: Liesel was born into an upper-middle class family with no siblings. Everything was handed to her on a silver platter, so to speak, and from an early age she was interested in drama. So her parents signed her up for CYT and, when she got older, she auditioned for almost every community play that came around, and usually landed a prominent role. So it came as no surprise to her parents when Liesel graduated high school and attended a university famous for its theater arts program. Liesel was sure that once she graduated, directors would be beating down her door, begging her to star in their upcoming Broadway musical. Boy, was she wrong. Theater is a very hard arena to break into, and Liesel was stuck with understudy roles and bit parts while she worked as a waitress.

After: Liesel has learned that expecting everything to be easy is stupid and naive. She's learned to survive, even how to hunt a little with the aid of a stash of guns she found in an abandoned Wal-Mart. She lives there in the Wal-Mart, sleeping in Bedding, using the lighter fluid and fuel logs found in Outdoors to light fires to keep warm in winter. While she might have been ashamed to wear anything but designer before The Day, now Liesel wears clothes almost exclusively from Wal-Mart. Heck, if it's all free and already made....why not?
