I'm from a very small town where most people are some sort of anabaptist. The local paper has a section where local pastors can submit articles about religion. This is from this week, I'm going to leave out some redundant paragraphs and random unrelated scripture quotations. Here goes:
[random scriptures at the beginning]
"Some recent writings in the local papers have violated al of these scriptures. I am so old and have studied so long, that I immediately recognize these writings as those wrtten by men several hundred years ago. These writers seek the wisdom of men, not the word of God."
[the author goes on to extole the virtues of sola scriptura for several paragraphs]
"The subjects recently addressed were TRINITY and DIETY. Neither of these titles or words are found in the Bible. The true word of God knows no such teaching. These are perversions by mosly gentile Greek writers after the 1st century. The original Hebrew scriptures, all the saying sof Jesus, the Apostles by inpiration of the Holy Spirit, throughout the entire 1st century, the inspired period of the new testament writings."
"Jesus at no time spoke of a Triune God or the Godhead as three persons. We must prove what we teach by the original God inspired (breathed) word."
[unrelated scripture]
"Trinity was a controversy in the 3rd century. Emperor Constantine called a meeting of his Church he had empowered of the opposing factions at Nicaea in 325 ad, and to become knowon as he Nicene Creed-the first man mande creed by a man made church. This added more confusion. If we embrace Trinity, 3 persons in the Godhead--we are following the Latin apostate church."
[random unrelated scripture and some bizarre tirade about marriage]
"THEOS-DIETY denoted a god or goddess or many gods in Greek culture and was passed to Jews and the false church after the 1st century. Diety began with the HINDU religion under 2 or more names (dyaus--divas). Diety was picked up by some Greek scholars who professed to so-called churchanity after the 1st century (the time of inspired writing). The Latin church adopted deity in 1258 ad. That explains why the word has become so well known in false religion."
"Jesus, God in the flesh, nor any Apostle under the Holy Spirit in the 1st century ever spoke of trinity or diety referring to the GODHEAD or the ONE GOD. Jesus and the Apostles spoke from the HEBREW SCRIPTURES, even though a well known Greek translation was available. JESUS would no allow the Greek culture to poison his word. That would have been an abomination. Writers and translators brought in Greek culture words into the writings of God after the 1st century, to make the new testament have a Greek mythology wording in a few places. This is the devil's way to corrupt true Christianity."
Ok, there it is. I couldn't decide if it was more anti-Catholic or anti-Greek, but I'll give you guys first crack at it. For political reasons, I can't contact this guy or submit an article debunking what he says, but his name and address accompany the article, and I'll gladly PM that and the name of the paper if anyone is bored enough to refute him on all these glaring errors. UGH!!!
