NJ Restaurant Customer Refuses to Tip Gay Server, Writes "I Do Not Agree With Your Lifestyle" | NBC New York

Oh boy...let's hear it for the "good" Christians!

Once again, the ignorance and nastiness is astounding coming from those who profess to follow the one who said "love one another as I have loved you".

and people wonder why Christians are vilified...here's a great example of why!

Sad :( I long for the day that when Christians will realize that this "religious right" political movement needs to be done away with. Why does their need to be people out there being the morality cops and screaming at the top of their lungs when things come up that they do not agree with. Just because you do not tip a server because he is gay doesnt show your Christ to anyone, it shows your ignorance and lack of understanding of Christ's love.

Gay, straight, transgender, whatever - Christ loves all and He will do whatever change in peoples minds and hearts that He sees fit. Lets pray that people do stop trying to make that change for others but instead allow Christ to do it because He is the one that does it and not us

Christ is everything!

Hmm. I never think to ask my server's sexual orientation. By this line of thought, I should also be surveying them on the rest of their life choices, just to make sure I agree with everything they do. I should also check the manager and owner, and cooks, since they make money off my meal. Wouldn't want to tip someone different from myself.

I didn't watch the video, but caught the slideshow on another website - it was a $93 check too, so not even a small tip they skimped on.

If they wouldn't tip the server because he's gay, why is it OK to be served by the gay server in the first place? They should have gone to a different restaurant. Tips are part of the servers wages, so it is essentially theft.

I sincerely hope that most people, regardless of their religious beliefs or their political stance, wouldn't support this behavior. This is terrible, not a good representation of Christianity, and anyone should be able to see that.

Huh. Was she wearing a, "I love women" pin or something? How exactly did they know she was a lesbian?

Is this another case like the black waitress who claimed that someone wrote the n-word on the tip line instead of actually tipping her and by all appearances the handwriting is completely different.

Must be something that only certain Christians have that allow this? Many something that is a love gift for those that donate monthly towards the "religious rights" cause? A detector of some sorts? Or could it be those that indeed truly hate others for whatever reason, is it possible that they themselves do struggle with the same, said issues that the person indeed hates another for? Hmmmmmmmmmm!

But in all seriousness, no wonder why the world doesnt want to hear about His love for them, His salvation that is for them, when people are out there beating them down, tearing them down and not showing them love but out of their "love" for the person, they belittle someone so that they appear greater than they are. When will people realize that we all struggle with issues in our life and some do struggle more than others but what makes it all the better, is this: When we do struggle with issues, sometimes only His love can ease those struggles. So instead of them showing people their version of His love, why not allow the unadulterated, the uncorrupted, the truly amazing brillance (wow, I cannot spell) of Christ's pure love pour out of their lives and just live for Him

Instead of not tipping people, why not tip more than normal for everyone and when you sign the receipt, leave a message of encouragement on it. Such as, Christ is love, Christ is amazing, etc instead of those "heartfelt ones" that show carnal love such as: Your wrong, Burn in Hell, and the most used God hates [bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse] one.....because nothing says I love your more than pure idiocy. I would rather dare to say that God does indeed hate flags because instead of people showing their allegiance to Him, rather, they show it to a fabric. So, indeed Westboro has it wrong - God hates flags! Maybe I should be the one to tell them and correct them of their error

Also, hating takes up too much time and energy. I would much rather just let His love, His light, His joy shine through me so that others might see Him within me shining forth so that they would ask me in regards of the hope that I indeed have within, so that I may give them an answer to their question of what is that hope that is within. May those who do not know Christ, may God allow our lights to shine, our love to shine, our peace to shine, so that others may see Him who is infused into us, the same person who takes over every fiber of our beings, Christ the exalted One - Our Lord, Our God, Our Savior and Our King :)

I will no longer adore those things that never satisfy me. Christ is everything

Eric

P.S. I used to be a much better speller and in fact, when I was in middle school I won a lot of spelling B's and yeah, I rocked back then :)

I'm wondering the same thing.

I don't get how people know someone's lifestyle choices.

I never thought to ask the person serving me....

Sent from my iPhone using CF
Well, for starters, being gay isn't a lifestyle choice so that's rather irrelevant. She may have set off people's gaydar though. Regardless, the fact that they were fine making her serve them thinking she's gay, but refused a tip shows what horrible people those "Christians" were.

I've been thinking about this since I first saw this story, honestly.

Things like this do happen, and in the era of the Internet, they're pretty likely to end up online. So, while I don't know with enough certainty to be willing to donate to her cause, I do think that it has a greater than fifty percent chance of being legitimate.

Well, not so much profited since she is donating the money to the wounded warrior project.

Okay, so that tips the balance a little further away from her falsifying the note. If she's not profiting from it, then the only thing there is to gain is attention and sympathy. Not that a psychologically unhealthy person might not want that as much as or even more than the money, but it does take out at least one motive for a hoax.

Can you imagine this story is made up, so this person would get attention. It wouldn't be the first time someone lied to get attention.

I can. That's why I said that it doesn't disprove the idea that the story could be made up. This sort of thing does happen, though, so I'm trying to avoid too many comparisons to the other case, because they seem unfair and based more on timing than anything.

If you've ever worked as a waiter, it isn't so far fetched. I saw (and received a few) all sorts of notes on receipts explaining away tips. Some people once said they had to money, but don't worry - they'll pray for me. I had tracts in place of tips. A group of teens who liked to leave condoms. Sob stories about employment, or promises to tip in the future... Families praying before a meal on Sundays were a pretty solid sign of a minimum or missing tip. I'll buy the story at face value.
