• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

First, let me just say it's been awhile since I posted on Christian Forums, and I'm returning after months of harrassment on some video game message board. I think I only posted on this board once or twice though.

Anyway, I'm 29 years old with Asperger's. In high school, I was in the top 5% in math in the nation, but my abilities never amounted to anything, and I wasn't good at writing. I hated writing, in fact. However, after a year break from college (after a disappointing first semester), I began teaching myself how to write while attending college. Now I'm a better writer than I am at math. <_<

So, after 10 years of community college, I've finally moved on to a four year as a junior, with my major being journalism. My goal, my dream is to work for magazines dealing with parents of special needs children.

I didn't meet my first girlfriend until I was 23. I've only had three girlfriends, two of which relationships ended badly. My first, who also had Asperger's, cheated on me, though the distance was partially to blame, since we didn't see each other that much. The second belonged to Philadelphia Church of God, a cult, and she chose her church over me. My third (ex with spina bifida), however, ended due to miscommunication problems. My Asperger's and therefore lack of social skills were to blame for that one, I'm afraid. However, we managed to remain friends and I think we're closer than ever. Well, I guess that's it for now...

I kinda feel sorry for u because u have been harrased, I wont mention any further but I definatly wish that it would never happen to me. I have had a crushes on two guys, they didnt love me and as the story goes I guess they broke my heart but I still carry on like I do day after day. I can tell u this though, I was diagnosed with AS when I was a wee baby, due to a injection. If u were wondering who I was diagnosed by, I was diagnosed by Dr Tony Atwood. I didnt go to High School but some other schools e.g Sara Cohen School and Salisbury School. I am nearly an adult and as far as my future goes I will never drive a car or own my own home. My dream job is to do somethin with animals but I cant go to university or polytech to be a vet or a vetnurse so u can say my dream job is crushed although my dream goal is to do somethin different, help any kind of animal that is in need of help e.g Yellow Eyed Penguins and the Megamouth Shark. That dream of helpin those animals has not been crushed because I think of what I can do for them every day and I work to achieve that goal.

Bless you both.

I have yet to be diagnosed but am investigation the possibility.

Lack of social skills....oh yeah, that's me.

Hazel, I was beginning to think I'd never learn to drive a car. Thanks to my fiance, I now think I might.

Hazel, NEVER tell yourself you can't do something! Do you have your GED? Are you on your way to getting it? If not, do whatever you can to get it. That way you can go to college and do whatever you want with your life.

Like I said, my dream is to work as a writer within the disabled community, which would be next to impossible without college. If I can do it, so can you.

Sorry to hear about your relationship woes, dude. Your story sounds a lot similar to mine, myself having Asperger's as well. Again, what we do have in common is the strength to overcome and bust our butts for the things we desire most out of life. Sure, we Aspies may have to put out more than 100% to get what it is we want, but that makes it all the sweeter and more appreciated when we do get it. We know we had to work harder than others, sacrifice more than others, and do more than others to succeed.

Nice to have ya back and I hope to see ya post more on the boards. You can usually find me in the Singles part of the boards, unintentionally offending and upsetting people with my unorthodox views. P:

I got AS and yeah the social things affect me. It doesn't affect my relationship with God thank goodness but it makes it hard to make friends at youth and stuff and I know like hardly anyone really well although I could say they are friends I don't really know them.

I also suffer a physical condition called Craniosynostosis (which is where the skull vault bones fuse prematurely) and when that gets fixed properly I could have my AS gone to a degree. It frustrates me cause I know like not that many people but if I have a genuine reason to talk to them I have no issue but when it comes to casual conversation (especially girls) it's almost impossible if they are around my age.

Christian Forums
This is my article for Christian Forums I think Christian Forums is a excellent place to be and I would definatly reccomend this website to anyone who is looking for a very friendly place with Christians and they r a christian. I have become a big fan of this website and any of my friends who r Christian I would definatly reccomend them to this website if I go to Fever Club and I see a good friend of mine. This is the first messageboard I have ever been to, I must admit I did have expectations, very small ones but Christian Forums has by far exceeded them and beyond. People here are nice and friendly and I am happy to b a CFangel here. Thanks to Supermama I wouldnt have found Christian Forums and I thank her for introducing me here. I am very fond of writing and animals and I am proud to accept a invite to become a CFwriter. I have made a whole lot of friends here e.g Snoochface, 2scoops, zfawnz, Dean Anderson, hollypparker and the list goes on and on but those r the few whom I have decided to mention in this article bout Christian Forums. I look forward to spending time here on Christian Forums with all my friends and all my friends r one of a kind, they r awesome and they r all very nice. Thanks to CFfosterangel34, Gwenyfur and of course the head leader of this newspaper Kirsten.New Creation for giving me a chance at doing whats best, helping people at all times by working very hard and may I just add, I like helping people do what they want and helping people if they have problems about anything.
Hope u like it.

I recognise what you say (I think)
At church, I'm in a group of people of 20-30 yrs old. I at times wondered, what is a friend, who in there is a friend? When/How does someone become a friend? At times expecting people to be friends just as I get to know them, like expecting such from people in that group, and feeling confused or hurt there at times, as their response, well... isn't what I expected or so.

Though I know one guy, and one girl, in that group, are, friends

(Have to think of that line, "Not everyone who is nice to me is my friend.")
