As a thank you to those of you who take the time to contribute to the forum by posting and replying, we will show less advertisements to those of you who have made at least 20 posts and received 5 likes on their posts.

I am a CIW certified web programmer. They taught us that we have just a few seconds to win people over. I believe that they will make judgements in a matter of a couple seconds whether they stay or leave. Please keep this in mind. You must immediately appeal to the eye or people will leave.

Another thing is that this is an Orthodox Christian site. And Orthodox Christian people hate change. That in itself works against us.

While true, if your home page is plastered with ads, most won't stick around to see if it's worth sticking around.

And then you have the slow load time with ads. some over 30 seconds to fully load.
Example, Current View if I'm not logged in

Massive "Welcome & Ad + Banner & Side banner takes up 75% of the screen", then the bottom banner for more lost realestate.
Only Section you see is "Introductions / Welcome Center" Dropping the "Welcome & Side Ad would increase viewable data by quite a bit"

The stats do not back this up though. In fact, our conversion rate from guests to members has increased significantly since moving from the old software and the ads there (which were more ads than we show on the new software) to the new software and our current setup of advertisements.

Some people are unable to pay; to them ads are a necessary evil, best kept to a minimum; like doctors medicine when you have that thorn in the flesh.

The people that stop by and look at the front page and leave; still get counted as viewing the ad and earn revenue for the site; sort of like tourist that come into a state and pay sales tax but don't reap any benefits from those tax monies. >Or do I have that wrong; do ads only make money when they are clicked on or does just being on the page generate payable ads?

As CF being that Orthodox Christian site (there are a few forums here where that might get debated ); shouldn't we be more concerned about those that are searching for God, no matter what; and open up the front page to show more Christian content?
