My Lenten discipline this year will be a 4th and 5th Step. I've worked through all the Steps before (several times, actually) but stuff has come up since last summer (stepbrother got his 4th, 5th and 6th DWIs and and his family decided that WE should bail him out since we've bought a house and therefore, "we're rich" -- and no, we didn't bail him out of jail!), death of a step-parent and three relatives, the discover that one of the now-deceased relatives raided all the inheritances (16 separate trusts) and sold off the family homestead which has been in our family since the 1800s.
Add in: rehearsing the Christmas program, but having the entire choir together for the first time the day of the performance (Christmas Eve) plus a disruptive member of my parish who went out of her way to sew ill will among the staff, the music department and the congregation -- and we've got a massive resentment working here, folks!
I know -- a codependent with resentments. It boggles the mind to imagine it, but... ...well, that's what the Fourth and Fifth Steps are for.
I plan to read the entire thing to my pastor during Holy Week, probably on the Wednesday before Passover.
