  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Any of you also have the impression that there is something fighting against you this Lent? Trying it's utmost to discourage you?

Yes! It happens every year. His name is Ronald McDonald.

I feel that way nearly every Lent, but this year I feel a very, real personal purpose for my suffering and that has made it easier.... suffering with clear purpose seems easier to perservere...

That is some grace you have there. God Bless you!

Every year.
And each year it's a little different, and sometimes really difficult.

I like to think of it as a time of spiritual growth. To work on being closer to god, and you know who always tries to get in the way. That's right, Satan himself.

This year, it seems more physical than spiritual. I've made it my goal to work on my physical well being as well as my spiritual. However, as I begin to exercise to lose the weight I need to, I caught a cold. Some may think it rather trivial and bizzare to work on the physical rather than the spiritual. But, over the past few months, I've come to realize how much my physical well being affects me spiritually. And if I can't feel good about my physical well being, how can I work on the spiritual? So, instead of not exercising at all while I have my cold, I'm doing small exercises rather than doing a full fledged workout.

Keep strong. Don't let the setbacks get you down. As my Priest told us last week, work on one thing that you feel need to work on, because if you do it all at once, it will drive you crazy and set yourself up for failure.

I carry my Rosary with me everywhere I go, and am always comforted knowing Mother Mary is ever near with her Son at her side. Very re-assuring also.

Yeah, I've been having a particularly hard time this year, though my resolution probably seems simple. I just graduated from college and don't have a job yet, and I decided to get up by 9:00 each morning, but I think I've only been able to do it once. My sleep schedule is messed up, I feel like I'm nocturnal, which is not a productive lifestyle for me. I realized a few days ago that my own struggle to pray and live a life of holiness is bigger in its effects and repurcussions than just me, and it was really inspiring for a while, but I seem to be getting discouraged. Pray for me!

*smiles* Then you're lucky, Charlie. Perhaps you could have some extra words of encouragement for the rest? I had a very peaceful lent last year as well. It's a wonderful feeling, isn't it? To be able to strive towards betering yourself in peace? :) I guess I'm more weak this time which seems strange since my life has improved so much since last year. Will be lovely to have you as someone to encourage and help the rest of us!
