  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Giving up certain foods - everything with caffeine as well as meat (even though thats not a big issue really... I don't eat lots of meat anyways). I'm also going through "The Spiritual Excercises" by Ignatius de Loyola. I'm not sure about the concrete part of Isaiah 58 on my beahlf, but I'm definitely trying to keep that in mind as well so that Lent won't become another way of senseless thing.

Don't observe Lent... I didn't even know what it was until I was 24. The denomination I grew up in says it's evil because it has catholic origins.

So in that demonimation the word catholic also ment "evil"?

Wow sad...

The word catholic actually means "Universal Christian Church"

I also don't observe Lent but not because of its origins. If there is anything worth giving up for God then for me its worth giving up on any other day and not on some special days only.
I also wouldn't call something evil just because it has Catholic origins.

I don't do Lent. Only because I don't feel the need to give up anything, unless of course I was feeling like God wanted me to give up something in particular. I kind of see it as making a resolution for New Years... I was never good at those.

I love Lent. It's my favorite time of the liturgical calendar. A time for solemn reflection and sacrifice.

Sometimes it seems to me today that churches are all "Celebrate this. Celebrate that. Rah! Rah! Rah! Be happy all the time." That's cool sometimes but life isn't always like that. So, I like to have a time where we can be more reflective--we can celebrate on the other 325 days of the year.

That being said, I didn't have any specific thing I was going to do other than spend more time in the word and prayer and cut back on junk foods.

Yep. They call themselves the "Church of Christ" and apparently they've been there all along in hiding amid all the other false churches. If you're not a member of the "Church of Christ" you're going to hell.

(Note: I don't believe that, it's what I was raised with though.)

I grew up in a Catholic = Evil church. One of those in that church told me on FB today that he used to observe Lent until God brought him into the Truth and set him free from bondage. But he was glad for what God was doing in my life.:o

I don't always do lent but this year I am. I am giving up cake, chocolate, sweets, biscuits. Anything nice really lol.

I don't believe that I HAVE to do this but I think sometimes it's nice to do it. If I gave up the above at any other time of the year I know I would give in but for some reason, doing it at Lent gives me more willpower.

Many Lutheran churchs still confess that we belive in "one holy catholic and apostolic church"

Although apparently this even confuses a lot of Lutherans so a lot of them have changed the creed to say "one holy Christian and apostolic church."

I don't much like the new wording.

Of course I'm of the group of Lutherans known as Evangelical catholics which prefers to emphasize traditional worship, so naturally I like the traditional creeds.
