  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I have had so many people tell me that by following Torah I am legalistic. Then, I go to some of the pages on here and see people stating that if you don't take communion, or aren't baptised, or don't go to church, or a miriad of other things that you will not be saved. Is this some form of Christian legalism? I really don't understand. Then there is the whole thing about "well if you are Christian then you shouldn't follow the Dietary Laws". So are they telling me that if I believe in Yeshua that I need to go out and eat a Ham and Cheese Sandwich? I am lost. How am I being legalistic, and they aren't. They are trying to REQUIRE me to eat something unclean, to do something I don't agree with and I am being legalistic? HELP ME UNDERSTAND!!!

Follow Torah is not legalistic, it is common sense. If the Lord says it is good for you to do this, and not to do that, He is telling us what will harm us and what will not. Since He made us, recreating us, sees the end from the beginning, He should know what He is talking about. Besides, I think we should get use to doing things His way so that when we are in heaven we will not have any conflicts regarding His Ways. Besides He warned us that His ways are not the ways of the world. We are getting ready to live in His world, We are just practicing those things that we know are profitable, those things that are good, those things that we know are not in conflict with His ways.

People will often throw around charged terms to cover their unwillingness/rebellion. Its much easier to say kashrut is legalistic than to actually follow it (or even simply research it).

Most people who use the term "legalistic" or "Judiazer" don't really want to hear the truth anyway. The truth is no one--Jew, Christian, Messianc --believes the Torah will "save" them. Faith alone is what "saves." We follow the Torah to be righteous and holy, not to obtain salvation.
