I also hate the one about some guy that goes to the grocery store and meets his old flame who is now married and they sit in the car together and stir up old feelings for each other. I think it's a new year's song , but they play it at christmas. ew adultry for the holidays...

And I hate "Hard candy Christmas"; which I also call the trashy Christmas song. I know it was written for a musical, blah blah blah, but it's depressing and I just want to tell the girl singing it how stupid she is. It doesn't fill me with compassion.

The song is "Same Auld Lang Syne" by Dan Fogelberg. The first line goes, "Met my old lover in the grocery store, the snow was falling Christmas Eve..." which is why they play it at Christmas. Incidentally, the characters never actually do more than talk, and she gives him a kiss as she leaves. (This isn't on my list...I'm just answering...)

I've been through this entire list, and my top two - or should I say bottom two - haven't been mentioned yet...but I'm not surprised...

"Blue Christmas" by Elvis Presley. On top of the fact that the lyrics are depressing, he sings it like a dirge. I heard once that he absolutely hated the song, so he purposely hammed it up and asked the Jordannaires to really ham up their backup part to make it sound worse. How was he to know that he could sing a grocery list and still sell millions?

"Mary's Boy Child" by Boney M. One of the worst sounding songs of ALL TIME...not just Christmas. I will never, ever understand what everyone sees in this.

While I'm ducking the stones that will be coming my way, here are a few others I can't stand (most of which have already been listed).

"Santa Baby" - Oh, yeah...commercialism, greed, selfishness...the TRUE feeling of the holidays. <insert eyeroll>

"Christmas in Hollis" by Run DMC. As much as I can't stand rap to begin with, this one is particularly bad.

"I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus". My husband and I actually came up with a rather nasty version, which I will NOT type in here, and only repeat if I'm sure to be in adult company.

Most of the Santa/Winter/Snow ones.

Side note: For those like me who shudder at "Jingle Bells", I HIGHLY recommend listening to SheDaisy's version. They do it with a Celtic twist, and it is fantastic.

Yes, well I know they just sit in the car together and talk and drink (i think), but she also talks about she isn't happy in her marriage if I remember. It's just too weird for me. I always turn the station if it comes on. And I HATE it which is why I mentioned it. And it makes me think of adultry so yeah a "least favorite" for me.

There are so few I like, I'm having trouble choosing.

I guess I'll just go with the first three to come to mind:

-Frosty the Snowman
-Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer
-Simply Having a Wonderful Christmas Time

Addendum: I dislike "I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus" just as much as any of those.

HA HA HA!! Oh man, so happy you posted that. I was just thinking about that earlier...AND my coworkers and I were talking about it earlier. Someone even wrote the lyrics up on the dry-erase board with the picture of the shoes and all.

The song has all the trademarks of the Hallmark special it was based off: a sappy story that tries REALLY hard to bring a tear to your eye, but you just end up laughing at how hokey it is.
